The Healer Heals Herself
There are many ways to deal with pain, choose wisely. Drugs, sex, you name it, there is something for everyone these days to escape reality. My choice however is self-awareness. I have a rebellious streak that resists the normal pursuit of abandonment. I love to learn more about myself and the ways in which I can heal myself, and what better way than through the spiritual modality of astrology. Through the study of astrology, I testify that I am a true Scorpio.

The Stars Deemed It So
From the day I was born the stars dictated the kind of person I would be today. In their essence they are energy, power, grace and blinding beauty. How is it that these impressive entities were aware of little old me, my own essence but a spec, a tiny life born an eternity away from their presence? My life is only a small blip on the timeline of the universe. The stars, by comparison, are wizened in their old age. They have seen generations of humans born, witnessed our growths and challenges, our wins and losses, and been present for our deaths. Who else but the stars would know from the instant I was born who I am destined to be for the rest of my existence? They have studied humankind for so long there is a very slim chance that they could be wrong in their assumptions of me. Unfortunately, though, the voices that speak on behalf of the stars above us can spread lies. Blessed we would be if we could bask in the stars’ presence directly, hear their whispers and stare in awe of their immense power but unfortunately we cannot come close enough to them to reveal their secrets entirely. Their knowledge of us may be twisted or lost as we pick out what information we can from so far away, and from the few who claim to know the stars’ best.

The Lioness Within
I know nothing of Astrology. Sun or Moon. Fire and water. All are parts of a whole. One does not exist without the other. Together, the elements can create something beautiful or become a disaster. Water boils above flames, flames are snuffed out by earth, plants grow by soaking up water and sunlight. It is a matter of how the elements are used. How they are combined. What their purpose is. The same concept can be applied to humanity. Our traits can be changed by our environments. Our dreams. Our struggles. Our purpose.

A Foot in Each Camp
You will always be born on one side of the line. When you are born so close to the top of the hour on a very special day at a very particular point on the globe like I was, you are inevitably and heavily influenced by both sides. For me, that would be the dreamer (Pisces) and the thinker (Aquarius). Holy beep! Now before I get into it, I would like to say that I firmly believe that each of us is here to be here. That’s my way of saying ‘for a reason’ without the dogma that can actually limit who you are. In fact, the fun location of Mercury at the time of my birth just goes to show how my words can get muddled unless I think about them. For example:

Of The Stars
Of the Stars What’s in a name? Well, the answer to whether or not I was born beneath the right star sign. I am a very bull-headed Taurus. Most know that Taurus-born are stubborn, reliable, and immovable. That is pretty much me. I am the one that my family and friends can count on. When I want something, I will do what it takes to get it. I want things in my life a certain way and I won’t settle. I may not have the bank account to accommodate, but I rather enjoy the finer things in life. I work hard for everything I have and maybe I can go overboard sometimes. I would definitely consider myself a shopaholic. I am an artist being, I love all forms of art. Music and writing being at the top of this list. I cannot create music myself. Writing is where I thrive. I get to create new worlds and people. I do not like when things change fast. I can handle gradual change because then I can adapt. I don’t like to feel unsafe in any way. I guess you could say I am a bit paranoid. Since I am an Earth sign, I prefer natural fibers over synthetic fabrics. Life is good for me; when I feel I am surrounded by love, When I am cooking for others, when I am shopping and when I get to create with my own hands. Food. Taureans don’t eat to live, they live to eat. Food is massively important, and they enjoy cooking and hosting dinner parties but, even more, going out to quaff and scoff at any given opportunity. Natural-born food bloggers! The Bull’s affinity for wealth and resource management should not be overlooked when considering appropriate professions for this sign. Banking and accounting may be suitable and appealing, as well as roles as stockbrokers, treasurers, and economists. This am not so sure about for me. Yes, money is great, but I don’t manage it well. No one would want me to handle money. That requires math and I don’t see eye to eye with math. Ruled by Venus, the ultimate work environment for the sweet dependable Bull needs to be beautiful in a serene, earthy way. Taureans will also feel connected to their soul’s purpose if they can create beauty for others in many nourishing and inspiring forms. Comfort is very important in my life. I sit in my bed to write. It’s comfy and warm. Sitting on my bed allows me to relax and allow a story to flow. I would get into the relationship traits of a Taurus, but I don’t know if it fits. I know what I am looking for but my experience with dating is limited. None of my relationships have ever lasted long enough to judge. I am terrible, if I am dating someone and I don’t feel like it is going somewhere. I will end it right away. I don’t have time to waste on non-productive activities that require me to leave my house. This has been a small insight into the mind of a Taurus star sign. We are simple but complicated. We are stubborn but adaptable. If you can ever tame a bull you have accomplished a great feet. Just remember, you will have to continue to work at the relationship because bulls have bad tempers and when they decide, they will follow through. Having a Taurus around can be very rewarding. They will be there with a shoulder for you to cry on. They will be there for whatever you need. No one is more loyal or reliable than a Taurus-born.

Astrological!
What we don't know about the universe would easily eclipse what we do. It's not even a contest. The unknown is much more prevalent than the known. So, when I say that I do not believe in astrology, I probably mean that I don't understand how stars and planets being aligned on your day of birth would impact your personality. I was appropriately named "Thomas" as in the biblical precursor, "Doubting Thomas." So, when people say things like "typical Aries...you're such a Leo...I knew you were a Virgo..." and so on, I think, yeah, sure. A group called "Imperial Drag" has a great song called "Zodiac Sign" where the singer says, "I'm unoriginal, it's fine/I wanna know about your Zodiac Sign." Sorry, people, grouping people in these large swaths of personality traits based upon their birthdays seems too random. I believe in nature and nurture. We are born into our circumstances to those who bore us and we develop our personalities, our drives, our sense of humor, our proclivities and eventually find our way to whatever vocations, avocations, intellectual pursuits, kinks, etc from our lives hence. To this very point, my mother was prone to note that both her brother, a Vietnam Veteran and erstwhile ne'er do well, and Adolf Hitler, a notorious, evil, murderous dictator, were both born on April 20th. Their similarities? They both liked dogs.

Living Life Like a Pisces
March eighteenth a little guppy was born. Born on a Thursday morning. Known to be our most lucky day anytime of the year. A guppy ready to grow and experience everything the world was ready to give. A Pisces sun, Aries moon, and Taurus rising. A true jack of all trades if you will. To say that I possess only a few traits my star sign has to give, would be an understatement.

Maiden Queen of the Sky
Whether you chose to believe in them or not, astrological signs (and the personalities associated with them) have interested people for many years. No one knows the exact origin of the Zodiac signs but the modern Zodiac sign as we know it was thought to have been adopted by the ancient Greek from the Babylonians. This practice of astrology is not technically considered a science anymore but many still believe in it as if it were. There are 12 different signs, each different from the one before, and yet somehow they make up the whole of the human race. According to Greek legend the Myth of the Virgo Maiden is this, she was the daughter of Zeus and Themis and personified innocence, purity, and justice and was the last immortal to live on the earth. She ended up in the stars because she fled earth after becoming disgusted by human greed and brutality and there she remains today.
