We talk pucks and objects of that kind. We yell, complain, and analyze in the language of hockey fandom. Gretzky can do no wrong.
Game #3: Winnipeg Jets Vs Los Angeles Kings
With the return of former Atlanta Thrasher Ilya Kovalchuk to the NHL, a lot of hype was surrounding the game days ahead of time, somewhat overshadowing the overall excitement of NHL hockey action returning to Bell MTS Place in downtown Winnipeg. This was due to two factors. The first was that many of the original Jets, who were with Atlanta before they made the move to Winnipeg, had played with Kovalchuk. Also, because Kovalchuk had played the last five years overseas in the KHL, people were wondering how his NHL comeback would be against the Jets. The curiosity was certainly there before the game. However, the hometown Jets did hang on for the win, coming away with a 2-1 victory in front of a very spirited hometown crowd.

At Least 82 Jets' Stories
As I write this, there are still two of my stories in the hopper from the previous two games the Winnipeg Jets have played awaiting approval from the moderators. As I am sure they will be posted shortly, the fans whom I have spoken with about my dedication to the coverage I am giving this season to the Jets have been asking me when the heck the stories will be made public.

A Bonus: Video Tidbit from the Jets' Fanfest Day
I did have a couple of younger people who were very curious about my camera when I was shooting at the Winnipeg Jets Fan Fest on September 15. I did try and do some handheld video shooting while I was there. Not the greatest footage I have ever taken in my life, which leads me to believe that if I ever get the opportunity to shoot anything at one of the practices in the future, I should make SURE I have my tripod with me! In any case, before the one child started getting overly personal with my camera and madly poking the zoom lens while I was trying to take photos, this was the bit of footage I did get.

Best Hockey Podcasts to Listen To
As you likely know, podcasts are one of the most popular digital audio formats around due to their convenience, streaming availability, and open opportunity for parity in programming that they offer. With the relatively low production and hosting costs of podcasting, many industrious people have found a way to create programs of various sorts. While many different types of programs are available in this format, by far the most popular is the discussion format. With the return of hockey in October, hockey fans may be looking for new programs, discussing the sport and the news within it. With the ease of accessibility offered by podcasting, you will find that there are a great many podcasts on the topic of hockey that you can sink your teeth into. Whether you are a Red Wings fan, a Vegas Golden Knights band-wagoneer, or a Habs fan, there are a number of hockey podcasts for you.

Game #1: Winnipeg Jets vs St. Louis Blues
Through looking at the simple statistics during the season opening game for the Winnipeg Jets in this 2018-2019 season, the win was very decisive. The game saw five different goal scorers on the stats sheet for the Jets in Patrik Laine (power play goal), Adam Lowry (short handed goal), Blake Wheeler, Kyle Connor, and Brandon Tanev, with goaltender Connor Hellebuyck playing a nearly perfect game, only allowing one goal, keeping the other 41 shots out. However, as is the case with any hockey game, there’s far more to look at than just the final score.

A Picture Is Worth a Thousand Words, Part 6 of 6 (Finally!!)
The last part of the day's action saw the players doing smaller passing plays—which were in an areas of about two meters square on the ice—which made them extremely hard to shoot. So rather than showing off a bunch of blurry Jets zipping around like my cat after she's had too much cake (yes my cat gets sugar high, she's weird...), I figured getting the shots of them zooming around doing laps was a little bit easier for me to handle. It could even be seen as a teachable moment for anyone else who may be interested in doing action photography, no matter the sport, so strap in, because a lot of camera nerdy-talk is coming up!

A Picture Is Worth a Thousand Words, Part 5
Picking right where I left off with the last photo story, the one-on-one battles in the training camp continue. As usual, all of the very blurry shots have been left out, as have the ones where people walked in front of me and literally blocked my shots! Above is a shot of Dustin Byfuglien (red jersey) chasing after the speedy Marko Dano (sapphire jersey).

A Picture Can Be Worth a Thousand Words, Part 4
Just as a quick editorial note, please don't expect all of the 1000+ rough shots I took that day to be posted. Although I was a tad surprised I had taken that many, once the dust settled, going through them and picking out the ones that weren't blurry or blocked by a passer-by proved to be a rather long process. In fact it was a bit of a task but even between my film work the last few days, I took an hour or so nightly to sift through the shots and figure out which ones I wanted to publish in my Unbalanced/Vocal feed. That being said, I picked out in this particular chapter of the Fan Fest/Training Camp photos several of the shots that were successful in showing the motion and speed at which the players were going. Also, I had to make sure they weren't blurry, which does happen, no matter how amazing a camera one may have. As a habit, I never use auto focus, all photos I take are manually focused. Above are Jack Roslovic and Dustin Byfulglien in one of the two-on-two cycling exercises which assistant coach Charlie Huddy put the players through on that half of the ice.

A Few More Thousand "Words" to Look At
The feedback has been pretty positive for the photo collections I have been creating on here from the September 15th Winnipeg Jets' Training Camp/Fan Fest day, and seeing that I have a few hundred shots on my hard drive that are all just aching for an audience, here's a few more.

Confessional Time
Like many Canadian kids growing up on the Prairies, I had dreams of playing hockey at a higher level. Believe it or not, playing in net as a goaltender was, at the time, a huge part of that dream. I worked hard at trying to make myself a faster, stronger, and more resilient player whom any scout would be crazy to overlook. I didn't tell anyone in case it didn't work out, but now I am at a point in my life where I think writing about this side of myself is a safe thing for me to do.

A Picture Can Tell 1000 Words, Part 2
A few more shots from the ones taken during the public training camp skates at the Winnipeg Jets' annual Fan Fest held at the Bell MTS Iceplex just off the perimeter in Winnipeg, Manitoba. After getting my shoes a bit less muddy from the walk from the closest bus stop (hint to anyone running in the Winnipeg civic election, ADD A BUS ROUTE OUT THERE as the half hour walk, which has a good chunk of it along the Trans-Canada highway, is more than slightly scary!!! Ok, rant done... for now, LOL), several hundred shots were taken during the camp so these moments that many hockey fans could not watch could be shared with them. Above is a shot of Jets' assistant captain Mark Scheifele early in the morning action as he watches for a pass to come his way.
