We talk pucks and objects of that kind. We yell, complain, and analyze in the language of hockey fandom. Gretzky can do no wrong.
Game #10: Winnipeg Jets vs Toronto Maple Leafs
With a huge signing in the off-season of Jonathan Tavares to the Toronto Maple Leafs, some people in the hockey world are touting the team as early cup contenders. However, just as many, after seeing how well the Winnipeg Jets did during their playoff run this past season, are also predicting the Jets to be strong favourites. The October 24 game between these two team, which have turned out to be Canada's two strongest contenders to lift the silverware up in the spring of 2019 was the first of two regular season games between the pair of hockey powerhouses before they potentially meet again in the post season.

Game #9: Winnipeg Jets vs St. Louis Blues
During a season where some of the bigger scorers on the team have been keeping quiet on the scoresheet, it is hugely refreshing to see other players step up. Certainly, players less known for their scoring prowess such as defensemen are often ones who get the fuzzy end of the lollipop, but Jacob Trouba was no sucker as he banged in the overtime winner during the Jets' fifth game in their six game home stand, taking the two points with a 5-4 win.

A Sidenote Story
As a freelance writer, keeping one's self organized is huge. Especially so when one is in the middle of moving from one home to another. So though notes have been taken for several of the games since late October, they are currently packed away in a bag, awaiting to be moved to my new home office in my former home.

How to Watch NHL Games
The NHL has been around for over 101 years. A lot has changed over the years! Back in 1917, when the NHL started, there were only four teams in the league. It wasn't very popular, and they were all Canadian teams. Oddly enough, one team has survived from that inaugural season: the Montreal Canadiens.

Game #8: Winnipeg Jets vs Arizona Coyotes
After submitting the story from the previous game, somehow or other, the 3 game point scoring streak of Nikolaj Ehlers was accidentally left out of the story’s game end notes. Apologies to Mr. Ehlers for that blunder. He, along with Patrik Laine, are both on three game point scoring streaks while Andrew Copp and Adam Lowry are each on two game point scoring streaks coming into Saturday afternoon's action. But that does beg the question, when would the Jets start getting a positive team streak to put on the chalkboard along with these amazing streaks?

Game #7: Winnipeg Jets vs Vancouver Canucks
October 18th saw the Jets come head to head with a red-hot team in the form of the Vancouver Canucks, who had won their previous three games. However, the Jets were having none of that, especially after their experiences two nights earlier against the one-man wrecking crew called the Edmonton (Connor McDavid) Oilers, having lost the game in the last 23 minutes played, including the overtime. Also, the Jets welcomed back veteran defenseman Dustin Byfuglien to the fold, after recovering from an upper body injury. Thanks to what they learned in the previous home game, the Winnipeg Jets came out with a resounding 4-1 victory over the Vancouver Canucks.

Game #6: Winnipeg Jets vs Edmonton Oilers
In spite of having one of the strongest opening periods seen in Bell MTS Place by the Winnipeg Jets in a while, a sudden flurry of goals from the Edmonton Oilers in the third period squelched the home team’s hope of a victory Tuesday night. The game ended with a 5-4 overtime win for the visiting Edmonton Oilers, led by their captain Connor McDavid.

Does Being Young Have an Advantage in Coaching?
It’s probably the question I think most about when I am around my teams. I fully believe it has its positives and negatives. Being the youngest coach not only in the Webster organization but even in the last three years of league play, sets me apart from the other coaches. I haven’t met a coach that doesn’t have a child on the team—easily putting them in the 30+ age bracket (sorry guys). I love being the young one out there, I can step on the ice during any clinic or our try hockey for free events and immediately connect with the kids much easier than any of the other coaches on the ice. Not saying it’s because I am a better coach, I’m saying it’s because of the age difference.

Game #4: Winnipeg Jets vs Nashville Predators
After having gone hard at it during playoffs in April and May of this year, with the Winnipeg Jets coming out victorious over the Nashville Predators in an intense seven game series during the 2018 NHL playoffs, their first meeting would begin at a boiling point. Revenge was in the hearts of the Nashville Predators, who came out with a 3-0 win on the scoreboard over the visiting Jets. However, in terms of other statistics, the Jets came out on top in all counts over the Predators, locking them out during all nine power plays they had throughout the game.

Best Hockey Goalies of All Time
Did you know that goalies used to come face to face with hockey pucks without any face masks or helmets? In fact, protective headgear was not mandatory in the NHL until the 70s, resulting in several of the best hockey goalies of all time never having to wear any protection.

Game #2: Winnipeg Jets vs Dallas Stars
In most hockey games, when a player intercepts a pass from the opposing team, creates a beautiful chance for himself, gives a puckhandling display nothing short of artistry, dodges through the opposition’s players with graceful speed and beats the goaltender, his brilliance and hard work are rewarded with a goal. Unfortunately for the Jets, thanks to a rather overdramatic fall by Stars’ goaltender Ben Bishop (which was very reminiscent of elementary school playground antics), Brandon Tanev’s goal scored on the spinning forehand shot at 5:05 of the first period was disallowed, which set the tone for the remainder of the night for the visiting Winnipeg Jets. Oddly enough, on the official play-by-play as listed on the NHL.com website, the play was listed as a backhanded shot by Tanev, saved by Bishop.
