We talk pucks and objects of that kind. We yell, complain, and analyze in the language of hockey fandom. Gretzky can do no wrong.
Milestone on the Horizon
So far, the Colorado Avalanche's return from the Four Nations break hasn't gone well. The last two road games of the extended trip ended with regulation losses, with only one goal each. However, nothing cures any and all ills like a long homestand. Six games. That's a very good chance to climb the Central Division ladder. A maximum twelve points up for grabs. My advice is simple: get those points. First on the docket, the New Jersey Devils, one of the few teams we've shut out this year.

A Team Canada Reunion
The Colorado Avalanche had one more road game to play through, and similar to the day prior to this one, it was a divisional contest. On Saturday, the NHL's first day back after Four Nations, the Avs lost a heartbreaker in Nashville. For this go-around, the Avs were in St. Louis facing the Blues, who was also struggling, but not at Nashville's level. The Blues are doing better than many figured, but that's really because of the Predators' shockingly poor performance this season.

Commanders grant two time Pro Bowl DT Jonathan Allen permission to seek a trade.
Commanders grant two time Pro Bowl DT Jonathan Allen permission to seek a trade. In a significant development the Washington Commanders have granted defensive tackle Jonathan Allen permission to seek a trade as reported by CBS Sports. This move comes as Allen enters the final year of his contract carrying a non guaranteed base salary of $15.5 million for the 2025 season. Allen a two-time Pro Bowler has been a cornerstone of the Commanders' defense since being selected in the first round of the 2017 NFL Draft. Over his eight year tenure with Washington Allen has consistently demonstrated his prowess on the defensive line. In 2021 he secured a four year $72 million contract extension underscoring the team's commitment to him. He rewarded this investment with back to back Pro Bowl seasons. However the 2024 season was marred by a torn pectoral muscle limiting him to just eight regular season games during which he recorded three sacks. Despite his injury Allen returned to participate in all three of Washington's postseason contests showcasing his resilience and dedication.

Please see tip, pledge and subscribe buttons or my venmo is : @Rich-Monetti Rye Slideshow On Tuesday January 28, the Avalanche girls hockey team took to the Brewster Ice Arena and faced Rye Country Day School. They skated to a 2-1 third period lead, and while the outcome was in doubt, the bottom line wasn’t for Abigail Lehr of North Salem. “I would have been happy with a win or a loss, just as long as I’m with the girls I love,” Lehr assured. Just the same, the game still required a decision, and the Avalanche definitely had to sweat it out.

Am I the only one who saw the Four Nations Face Off as an epic two-week long dream? In place and stead of the NHL All-Star Game this year, we were treated to an amazing best-on-best tournament featuring the NHL's best from Canada, Finland, Sweden, and the United States. The countries faced each other in round robin games, with the standings being different than what we see in the NHL. Regulation wins were three points, overtime/shootout wins were two points, overtime/shootout losses were a single point, and of course, no points for regulation losses.
