Shabana Mahmood: Teething Troubles with One in, One Out Deal.
Keir Starmer did a deal with French President Emmanuel Macron. The agreement is one in, one out. In other words, we send a migrant back to France, and we accept one from France. Or at least that's the basic theory of it. So illegal migrants can be removed from Britain, and an equal number can come to Britain via the legal route. However, some have questioned the logic of this. Surely a sound policy would be stop or at least deter migrants from crossing the English Channel in the first place. The Channel is the busiest or one of the busiest shipping lanes in the world, so dinghies stacked up with people are taking a hell of a risk. There have been no collisions with shipping as far as I know; however, dinghies have capsized with fatalities. Mr. Starmer was also supposed to be cracking down on the gangs exploiting migrants, but how well that has gone, I cannot say.

Labour MP's Letter
Labour MPs described their mood in a letter to Sir Keir Starmer as "anxious and angry". Or to quote the full sentence, the 50 MPs who put their signatures to this letter said the blocking of Andy Burnham from standing in the Gorton and Denton by-election had caused them a "huge amount of anxiety and anger".

Iranian Official Threatens War.
As Trump sends American flotillas from different directions to Iran, an anonymous Iranian official has said that if America strikes, "This time we will treat any attack (whether it be) limited, unlimited, surgical, kinetic, whatever they call it - as an all-out war and we will respond in the hardest possible way to settle this"!!! The official declined to say what this response would look like. Iran has said it is preparing for any American action and hopes it will not have to confront the US fleet/fleets.

Zack Polanski: Thinks He Can Persuade Reform Voters to Support Him.
The Green Party has always been present in British politics. Known for their green and environmental politics. To begin with, they had one female MP; now they have four. Similar to their right-wing opponents, Reform UK, which also has 4 MPs.

Trump Backs Down Over Tariffs and Greenland.
Trump caused panic, worry, anger, and frustration when he threatened his European partners with tariffs because they would not support him in his plan to take over Greenland. Trump wanted to buy Greenland from Denmark, or he would use force, or so it seemed to take it. Trump threatened his opponents with 10% tariffs if they did not acquiesce to his Greenland adventure, or should that be misadventure? These were to start from 1 February and would rise to 25% if those nations that opposed him did not give in.

Grave Image Starmer.
According to Beth Rigby of Sky News, she has never seen the UK Prime Minister look so troubled. Sir Keir stood at the podium in the Downing Street Newsroom, delivering a message of a serious split in opinion between the UK and the US. Beth described the prime minister's face as grave. In her words, this press briefing by the prime minister is the most serious crisis in the so-called special relationship between the UK and the US in years.

Lisa Nandy: Pushes Back Against Trump.
Northern English MP and Culture Secretary Lisa Nandy has voiced her government's opposition to Trump's meanderings on Greenland. She echoed her boss, Sir Keir Starmer, who has pronounced Trump's imposition of 10% tariffs on UK imports in the US as "Wrong". The UK, along with other European nations are standing up to Trump. They are standing against Trump's desire to buy Greenland. Hence, Trump is imposing 10% tariffs by 1 February, rising to 25% by 1 June if there is no agreement on Trump acquiring the biggest island in the world. Yes, folks, in case you didn't know, Greenland is not a continent, unlike Australia. The frozen territory is classified as an island geographically.

Starmer Talks to Trump.
Sir Keir Starmer spoke to President Trump on the telephone last night. They spoke at length, according to a Downing Street Spokesman, about Greenland and the tanker Bella 1 or Marinera. Sir Keir Starmer's view on Greenland is in line with other European leaders. That is, they stand with the Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen. Ms. Frederiksen has said that if the US were to invade Greenland, it would be the end of NATO. And rightly so, Denmark and America are NATO Allies. It would be a literal stab in Denmark's back if America went ahead and invaded Denmark. How can a friendship stand when your close friend has done something to offend you? That would be the case between the US and Denmark over Greenland. It would only embolden people like Putin.

Putin Dispatches Naval Vessels.
Vlad "The Invader" Putin (taken from Vlad "The Impaler" Tepes) has officially stepped into the situation between America and Venezuela on the high seas. It seems the capture of Nicolas Maduro, who is now facing trial in New York, crossed a red line for Russia. Maduro and Putin are close allies, and Maduro's successor, Delcy Rodriguez, will be just as close with her Russian counterpart.

Mette Frederiksen: Greenland isn't Yours!
Trump has always been obsessed with Greenland. During his first term, he mentioned it then. Now, in his second coming, President Trump stated the US needs Greenland for defence. Mentioning Russian and Chinese ships that pass that way. Of course, one has to take into account the minerals that lie under the snow that covers Greenland. So is Trump's interest merely for defence or business or both? The irony of it is that Greenland already has a US military base there with the permission of Denmark.

New Year, Really?
I don't know what you did on New Year's Eve, but I was sitting listening to my neighbour rattling my house with his bass-dominated tunes. Obviously, the guy and his Mrs have a right to party, but is it really necessary to blast my wall down like the trumpeters from Jericho? Thumping bass and the volume turned up so loud that it distorts the music. Mind you, whether you can call it music is another thing. But hey, Im biased, each to their own, I guess.

Christians Gathered in Manager Square, Bethlehem.
His Eminence, the Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem, Pierbattista Pizzaballa, spoke to the faithful. Saying the following: "You are the light, we are the light. The light of Bethlehem and the light of the world". He walked the streets, followed by Christians of every stripe, both Palestinians and foreign tourists.
