A Letter to My Period
Dear Periodianna, I could have started this letter with "long time no see," but that would be an outright lie wouldn't it? You just manage to show your face every month and the truth is one month is too short for me. I'm writing this letter to you to tell you how I feel. The relationship we're in is not healthy; I mean, you put so much effort into making this relationship work and the only reason I'm in this relationship is because of my gender status. Don't you get tired? Like seriously? In a normal relationship both parties have to put in effort for it to work. So, since we last saw each other I've been doing some thinking and I've come to the conclusion that you're a freak, a psychopath and a stalker; I mean who visits their "friend" with blood and pain? You have it in your head that being female is enough effort. But there are different kinds of relationship aren't they? And after putting into account both mine and fellow XX chromosomes' experiences I can say this with confidence that you are an UNFRIENDLY FRIEND in other words my ENEMY.

Embracing Natural Beauty
When it comes to my beauty routine I like to keep it simple, I believe that less in more and soon you will too! We are constantly being discouraged by the media to going out without makeup on. Celebrities are ridiculed relentlessly for this. As photos emphasizing their so-called “imperfections,” are plastered all over the front covers of nearly every magazine. These media outlets are also the largest endorsers for these expensive beauty products. If we stopped using these products, then they would not make money. In order to keep sales on target, they are ruthlessly objectifying us as women and shaping our minds to suit their greed. It is truly disturbing to think about the control that the media has over society and one’s thoughts. Have you ever stopped to think about how many things you are influenced by on a daily basis? How much does the media impact your life and personal decisions?

Medical Gaslighting
The other day, I came across a really powerful article written by a husband about his wife’s emergency visit to the hospital in which her needs were minimized by the staff. It brought back some bad memories. I was inspired to share the article with women on the various Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder Facebook groups. After all, we are not only women, we are women with PMDD… "a merely hysterical and imagined illness meant to justify our bad moods and suicidal tendencies.”

Nothing Is Like Bitter Sweet
I wanted to write this today to show people how things can be difficult if one lives with one mental health issue, for me living with it comes with a price. A price that I've regretted when I wasn't thinking straight; I couldn't really pull myself out of it this time, I was in far too deep. Despite what was going on around me, I still couldn't seem to get out of it no matter what, sometimes I have to apologise for what my actions may have caused while I was unable to pull myself out of it.

A Different Kind of Positive
My driving motivations and how I’m trying to change my life are much more complicated than I had originally expected. Right about the time that I quit smoking the thought was that I would simply attempt to look on the positive side of things and continue about my life. Soon thereafter, I found that neither one of those things was as simple as I made them out to be. I had to find something to do to take away my stress, where I once used smoking for that purpose. The withdrawals were actually not even the worst part, as I found out through the first few months of wanting a smoke every single day. Quitting cold turkey was the only way for me, but I found that wanting to smoke every day put me even more on edge than the stress that was building up for lack of an outlet.

Caving into PMDD Cravings
Often enough and sooner or later, on one of the PMDD forums, a woman will post about eating an entire bag of "insert brand name" snack food. I totally get it. I myself have posted about eating giant bars of chocolate, entire bags of chips, too many pastries, and frozen yogurt...all at the same time. When you feel miserable, and there's nothing you can do about it, and the cravings are there...well, the indulgence can feel nurturing. I've stopped judging myself for these episodes because there's no point in it. I'm otherwise incredibly healthy and eat a very healthy diet. I exercise regularly too. Once a month, if I have a hormonally-induced need to just go totally crazy, I do. And I'm not about to beat myself up over it.
