We should all be more like Elphaba–and a little less like Glinda
Spoiler Warning: This essay contains major plot points from Wicked (2024) and Wicked: For Good (2025). If you haven’t seen both films, consider this your last chance to click away before we melt the illusions right off the yellow brick road.

A Film for the Cold Climate
Once again, I find myself to be the odd man out. When I think of this season, and the movies that have been inspired by it, I don’t think of romance per se, or even the great horror films of my 80s past. There is just too much of the whiff of pumpkin spice and dead leaves in those films to leave me feeling like I’d rather be out in the cold, walking alone in the too-early dark. No, the film that I think of when this season arrives, and I have to engage in a shift in my wardrobe to “sweater weather,” is a film that I usually end up watching in the spring to coincide with events on screen.

Keeping Up Appearances
One of the many shows I used to watch with my nan as a kid was Keeping Up Appearances. I didn't know how to appreciate it at the time because I was very young, but I always thought the character, Hyacinth was so funny. Watcing the show as an adult made it apreciate it even more. So many talented actors took part in the show and it feels very real. Hyacinth reminds me of a modern day influencer where she tries to make herself posher than she really is. I think many can relate to her even though the modern say social media didn't exist at the time.

"Beyond the Gates" Weeks 32-37 Recap
It's been a minute since I've recapped this daytime phenomenon known as Beyond the Gates. I've been so deliriously happy with what's been going on in the sports world. A wild World Series that not only went seven games, but the finale went to extra innings. The Packers off to a good start, and my many fantasy teams having good years. Even the Chicago Bulls are doing well so far! And then there's the Colorado Avalanche. My goodness, I could write a book on how epic our magnificent start is!

Villainess Blown Opportunity: Judith Hoag's Rita vs. Megan Fox's April O'Neil (TMNT: Out of the Shadows)
I just want to clairify something here. I've been writing a few "Villainess Blown Opportunity" pieces recently, but I assure you, my intentions are genial. When I write these, it's not out of any disrespect to whatever show or film is the subject. This is not me immensely criticizing the project. Rather, it's just an idea or a suggestion from someone who's been a fan of villainesses since age 8, and has a big imagination. A lot of the shows or films that serve as the subject still have my adoration regardless, but if I believe that there was an opportunity for a villainess to take the spotlight, I'll definitely point it out.
