I like reading, 📚 I like writing, ✍🏾 I like sharing, I like exploring, and I like art. All the above, connect you to something. If I create by writing, I will want to share. Writing is an art, and a preserver of history, culture, and values. While art allows me to explore. Craft is a generic term for all kinds of art. It is not selfless but desires to share. It looks for a problem to solve, and solutions to adapt. When I think of catharsis, it is a temporary state, fleeting, might be exciting, and less involving. It sounds lazy, laid-back, and a bit selfish.

I rub three time. Nothing. I do it again. Nothing. I whisper a prayer. nothing changes. One more time, to no avail. Wait! I have it somewhere. I’ll look for it. My magic eight ball. I find it and ask it if I will be able to write today? Its reply, “without a doubt.” I do it again and ask the same question. “Outlook not so good.” This is insane! Make up your mind, already. Final time, “will I be able to write, today?” I turn the wicked little thing and get, “Concentrate and ask again.”

I use Inktober as a Writing Aid
If you are a writer reading this, you know just how hard it is to find content to write about. Oftentimes, we have writing groups that employ various methods such as word sprints to get that creativity flowing. However, I have been in many of these groups that died out due to the curse of inactivity. Another source we often use are writing prompt groups such as r/writingprompts on Reddit, but the very specific prompts on there can be limiting, or may not inspire creativity. There are plenty of other resources writers use to practice, but let me throw my personal resource out there: Inktober52.

It was a hot steamy day in Ancient Greece, a city known for its art and marble quarries. The heat is intense and the air smells of dust and olive oil. My name is Kaelos and I carve statues. Welcome to the Temple of the Profane. I know, right? Whodathunk I’d ever encourage end rhyme? If it’s offensive, I’m okay with it. Grab a pint of Guinness or Jameson’s and don’t tell me “dirty limerick” is redundant. I’m well aware that if it isn’t dirty, it’s not a true limerick. But some people try to ruin a good time with some puritan Pollyanna bullshit every chance they get. I’ve read some clean limericks, and there’s something about them that’s more wrong than an olive in a Bloody Mary or a stalk of celery in a fucking martini. If I can figure out how, I’ll fine anyone who tries to sneak a clean limerick in here, and I’ll press criminal charges if sentimentality enters the equation. It has no place outside of Hallmark cards and movies, and we’re not dumbing down this room.
