John Jay Community Refuses to Abandon Coach Bill Swertfager
On Thursday, November 3, the Board of Education met for its weekly meeting, and the room bursting with parents, alumni and current students, the gathering was no ordinary affair. The board recently alerted Coach Bill Swertfager that he would not be among the coaches slated for return. The issue at hand stemmed from an incident that took place 18 months ago at a John Jay Girls Softball game. In response, the public comment echoed a profound disagreement with the decision.

This is how you should run for a football’s penalty rebound
Penalties. For some, one of the easiest ways of scoring a goal, and for others one of the most challenging moments. When thousands or millions of spectators are watching that 11 meters seem pretty far. A miss is not always crucial because it may contain a rebound. But to be there for it requires some inventiveness. One particularly stands out.

Why spending 0£ in a transfer market will hunt you down
I recently explained why getting too many players in a transfer window can’t work. Now, we’ll look at the complete opposite. Why a strategy of not spending a single £ on a transfer market will also hunt you down. Or at least prevent you from achieving some greater things. The case of Leicester City has encouraged me to clarify it in detail.

Fox Lane Sports Moments to Remember
Here's a look back at some great Fox Lane Sports moments. Relay 4X400 Team Gets Ready for Millrose Games The Millrose Games are about as prestigious as it gets for track and field athletes. That said, qualifying for the competition definitely creates scholarship potential for the high school track star who get to lace up for this historic New York City venue. It's one that dates back a hundred years and partially had Fox Lane Track Coach Chris Dossena agreeing that his girls 4x400 relay team should take the long view of qualifying for Saturday’s running in the New York City. But on the whole, he believes the opportunity represents something much more tangible.

John Jay Settles for Tie Versus Byram Hills
On Monday, September 12, John Jay took to Contest Field and hoped to begin a winning streak against Byram Hills. Controlling the play in the first half, the Wolves were unable to grab a lead. So the Bobcats did the honors and jumped out to a 1-0 lead moments after intermission. The irony was not lost on the home team either. “It was like a slap in the face,” said Shannon Nolan, and the girls responded with two goals to take the lead. But two overtime periods passing, John Jay still had to go home with half a smile.

Where has all gone wrong for Aaron Wan-Bissaka?
Going to EURO 2020 England had a lot of great options at right-back. Kieran Trippier, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Reece James, and Kyle Walker were calling for their place among the starting 11. England manager Gareth Southgate took advantage of such luxury and shared the playing time among them to maintain freshness in the team. However, the fifth option Aaron Wan-Bissaka was never in the contest to join the tournament’s squad despite playing really well for the club. Today, he looks as far away from Three Lions as he has ever been. So, where has everything gone wrong for him?

When Nike had both C Luo and Messi, but why did they eventually lose Messi?
For the past 15 years, there has been a tit-for-tat between the pint-sized genius from Argentina and the pretentious superhero from Portugal, even when it comes to their most important dinner guy - soccer shoes. With nearly a billion-dollar contract in hand, Messi chose Adidas, while Crosby chose Nike.

Why signing too many players in a transfer window is a suicide
Seeing teams get promoted always fills me with joy. They have suffered so much, played so well, overcame all the downfalls, and possibly with a bit of luck, it was enough for them to secure the spot among the league’s best. I was one of many who were eager to see Nottingham Forest FC back in the Premier League. Once a European force was not in the English flight division for some time. But after signing player after player in the summer transfer window doubts began to rise. That can’t work I said to myself. Up to this point, I was right. Let’s see why.

Playoffs? Are You Kidding Me?. Top Story - October 2022.
Hello readers, I hope you all have been enjoying my recent posts. It’s been a while since I’ve written an NFL blog, but I’ve decided to give it another try. We are almost a third of the way through the 2022-23 NFL season and so far, there have been a handful of teams that did not make the postseason last year but have showed some noticeable improvement and/or displayed flashes of upside that seem to indicate they could be contenders when January arrives. I’ve identified seven such teams and consulted my (imaginary) magic eight ball to seek answers to the question… will (insert team name here) make the playoffs this season?

UEFA Nations League serves only lower-ranked countries
When UEFA Nations League was introduced it received much skepticism. Since it was something completely new, quite expectedly. After two whole editions behind us and the last one in the final stages (only the final four of league A winners and C league relegation battles yet to play), it’s fair to say that not everyone is pleased with it. Don’t get me wrong. It has more positives than negatives, but one thing stands out the most. It conveniently serves lower-ranked countries while it produces more potential problems for the “big ones”. Let me explain why.
