The Dangerous Cockroaches

My spouse has a job,

works from home.

two cute, witty kids,

a house in the suburbs,

a leafy neighborhood,

and an organic backyard.

I earn from writing and art,

Life may seem sorted,

don't jump to conclusion,

not so fast.

I rose like phoenix,

from the ashes.

It was not my mistake,

yet a cockroach infestation

made me very sick.

My body turned acidic,

my immune system aggravated,

hormones in chaos,

nerves scarred.

With great discipline

and deep learning,

avoid all irritants,

I slowly fixed my health.

I have not forgotten

how the pesky cockroach,

upended my life.

How I read, researched,

published on this

critical, but lesser-know

health crisis,

to generate awareness.

I am glad the house is free

of that threat now,

and I healed enough,

to have healthy kids.

But relatives want to visit,

as guests,

not all are careful,

or aware.

What if bugs hitchhike

with them,

from some hotel beddings?

Will I show hospitality

to endure,

the same nightmare again?

It is not an apartment now

but our own house,

we can even move if needed.

So, I pray for careful guests.

Despite knowledge,

so much is not

in our power.
