dog
It's no coincidence that a dog is a man's best friend; they're more faithful than most other animals, and more faithful than many people.
Out of the Dog's Mouth
Hello. Do you like my picture? I am thirteen years old in this picture, and I'm still looking good, don't you think? This is my story, a story of my life with my master as seen through my eyes, and why I love the person I call my master (or mother), and how we came to know each other and learn from each other.

The Golden Adventure of Ritz
Hi. My name is Ritz. I am a fluffy golden retriever. I love to sleep and fetch and chew on toys. But the thing I love most of all is swimming. My breed was made to swim through the water to retrieve ducks. I don't think I've ever retrieved a real duck before. I did have a toy duck when I was a young puppy that I thought was real for a long time. I chewed and chewed on him and I didn't understand why he kept squeaking. Then, finally, I tore him open and I found fluff inside. Fluff! My humans tricked me! All that time I thought I was being a hero, bringing down a mighty, mighty duck. Anyway, I digress. I've never retrieved a real duck, but I do love to retrieve tennis balls when my humans throw them into the water.

The Sweetness of "Sugar"
About 15 years ago, my sister Michelle brought my 84-year-old Mom to various places in search of a dog or a puppy for her. It was the last stop on the route home where my Mom met “Sugar,“ an American Eskimo who totally lived up to her name in sweetness. Apparently, lucky for my Mom and our family, Sugar’s previous owner had brought her back to this pet seller because she wasn’t a match for that person’s household. Michelle gave my Mom the most wonderful gift when she stopped into that pet store that day - Sugar was then about 6 months old when my Mom first locked eyes with her for what would prove to be a divine pairing of souls.

Why My Dog is a Nymphomaniac
I never quite thought a dog could be a nymphomaniac, until I purchased Carla. Carla was a Jack Russell. I knew Jack Russell's were affectionate, but I didn't quite realise to the degree that she would literally prowl upon anything that released even a microgram of testosterone.

A Dog Named Joey
I kneel down at the crest of the meadow; the trail is winding up through the junipers; cutting through the grassland where cattle are roaming. I pause sitting back on the rocks that edge the trail leading towards the Pacific Crest. I’m tired, my shirt soaked with sweat clinging to my back. Joey my four-legged hiking partner is prancing at the edge of the leash, frenzied with the need to chase the cattle. He glances back at me, his sigh showing his displeasure at my not allowing him to herd. He licks at my hand, then glances back at the them as though to remind me that he’s a cattle dog and that I’m interfering with the nature of things. I smile, kissing the top of his head, hugging him close I whisper a lullaby to calm his nerves. Joey my Joey, the best dingo dog there could be, Joey my Joey my heart belongs to thee.

Ella
My name is Crystal and I want to tell you about my girl, Ella. Ella is an apple head chihuahua that I got when I was 18 years old. To give you a bit of background, I’m physically disabled with Spinal Muscular Atrophy Type 2 (SMA2)and I’m also chronically ill. The years prior to Ella were my hell, I was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL)when I was 13 you old. I was the first person in the world with SMA2 and ALL, I also had to start my 2 and a half year chemotherapy treatment plan which we weren’t even sure would work for me.

Clifford: The "Untrainable Dog".
Remember the stories about the Big Red Dog named Clifford? Well, I’m lucky enough to have a real Clifford of my own to love and cuddle with every day. Clifford came into my life 8 years ago when I first met my husband. My husband had rescued Clifford a month before my husband and I met and it’s really funny because, before Clifford, I was not much of a dog person. I was really a cat person, or so I thought. When I met Clifford and started to get to know him, my love for him grew immensely and he became my first fur-baby. Greg told me from the beginning how he was warned that Clifford was the “untrainable dog” and “would never be able to be in a home with cats”. I witnessed first hand how Clifford would bolt out of, my now in-law’s, home the second a door was left cracked and he saw an escape route. He was mighty fast and would take off.

My Dog, Shirlee
Dogs bring hearts to our lives. Most especially, my loving dog, Shirlee. Shirlee is a Peek-a-Poo. No, it’s not that little game you like to play with your child. She is a miniature half Pekinese and half Poodle. To me, she is like no other dog that I have owned. Compared to other dogs she has a distinct personality, is energetic, but I would love to talk about her incredible love for us all. It’s clear that she holds a lot of love for us all and she cherishes every day whether it's being inside or going for a walk around the neighborhood.

Oreo
In 2010 my parents split up, and so my dad, my sister and I moved to a new house. We had a dog with my mum but we had to leave it, and of course we were sad. so in 2014 we had a puppy named peanut. She was black all over and was a labradoodle. She was full of so much life and lit up a room with her happiness. But unfortunately she died later that year after a terrible accident. We had to say goodbye and that broke our hearts. In 2015 we decided we were ready to get a new dog. We went to the pound for months, but as our house is small we needed a small dog and none were there. On gumtree my sister saw a woman needing to load off a bunch of puppies quite quickly, so we decided to go and have a look. We are from Hobart, and the lady lived in Launceston (Tasmania) so it was roughly a two hour trip. After we visited and picked her out we went back up 2 weeks later to officially take her home. She was 5 weeks old, way earlier than we should of gotten her, but the lady was desperate and we really wanted her. So we spent the day up there with the dog then drove home at night. I was holding her in the car. As we were driving it was a long road so we were going fast, we noticed too late this turn off that was new and so we ended up spinning out of control and the dog flew from my hands. My dad eventually got the car in control and luckily the only thing damaged was the bumper. I thought we lost her, but she was fine. Flash forward to having her, she became the hope. She is a terrier crossed with many things we still are unsure haha, she is rough looking but in the cutest way. Her name is Oreo as she’s black all over with a stripe down the middle, and she just turned 5. We had a scare a few years back where she ran away, and I thought something bad was going to happen to her, but she just ran so much that she tired herself out and passed out somewhere and then was found later by someone, and we got her from the vet and she was perfectly fine. She is the most unique dog I’ve ever met, as she acts like a little human. She knows certain words, eats food with me, she whines when she isn’t getting attention and when she needs help even though she could do it herself hehe. She’s thoughtful, caring, loving and I see her as my baby. She sleeps under the covers next to me and every morning she waits until I’m awake and then licks and jumps on me. Sometimes I fake I’m still asleep so I can sleep in but she knows. She also is obsessed with food, especially meat pies and cheese. Everytime we talk about getting food she jumps on us and hugs us which is her way of sucking up haha. Basically she is the light of my life, very intuitive and loves humans more than dogs. She brought our family close after everything that happened and puts smiles on our faces everyday.
