cat
It's been said that people that hate cats will come back as mice in their next life.
Binx and I: A "Tail" of Destiny
I always considered myself an animal lover, but never a cat person. The only cats I knew were my aunt’s, which were always hiding unless it was dinner time. I never had a cat growing up, only dogs because my father was allergic. I’m allergic, too—to both dogs and cats—but I could never live without a dog so I have simply come to terms with the fact that I will forever be on allergy medication. At one point, we seemed to be rivaling Noah’s Arc—my family had two dogs, two gerbils, two frogs, and two fish. I always considered myself an animal lover, but when it came down to the old cat vs dog debate, my answer was simple: dog. I have always been a dog lover. I still am. Yet I somehow ended up with a cat whom I absolutely adore and love with every beating crevice of my heart.

Does Your Cat Do This Too?
Bella was one of two kittens in a cardboard box in the park. Her sister, a tabby I named Stella, was the cat I chose, but I knew they were both coming home with me the minute I held Bella. I was a sucker, but it didn't matter. I had room in my heart for both. Having lost my 13-year-old cat, I was finally ready for a new pet, and I just knew that two would be a whole different experience.

For: RoseGold&Kesan
For: Rose & Kesan (My Two Cat Sons) I will always love and appreciate the both of you too. My little sister, who is actually is my best-friend, had took in a stray cat who had kittens and she kept one of those kittens. I wanted a cat, since my son had passed away and I was suffering really horrible from depression. So, my little sister cat who I called Mama, had her third litter of kittens, and my sister already had two from her second litter. My little sister is an animal lover, no matter what she says, she will say “I am not taking in no more animals,” and next thing you know, she will be telling you why she had to bring the cat or dog home. I always laugh, as her mom gets on her, but we love her so much that we all will someway or somehow, take care of whatever animal that she had brought home.

Two Tails
Earlier this year my uncle passed away. Talk about a terrible way to start the year. For the sake of identity, let's refer to him as Uncle Steve. Anyway, he passed away in Mexico while he was with his brother, who we'll call Uncle Josue. They both were caring for my grandmother who has been ill ever since my grandfather died a few years ago. His death hurt her so that she has had a literal weak heart ever since. So she has been in and out of hospitals for years, with my two uncles aiding her.

The Station 57 Cat. Third Place in Stray to Stay Challenge. Top Story - April 2021.
There was a “meow” coming from somewhere in front of our station. We heard it at random intervals, desperate but also elusive. Two of the Emergency Medical Technicians I work with helped me canvas the area, using whatever meat products we could find in our break room refrigerator as bait. We are situated in a busy area of Brooklyn and there are many feral cats nearby, but none had ever called out to us before.

My FUR Family
In the beginning I did not want a fur baby. My husband said we need a cat. I argued that we did not need an animal. He argued we did. Well where we were living at the time wanted a pet deposit and monthly pet rent. I told him there was no way we could afford either one. He argued with me for two weeks. I told him it was not worth being broke to have a pet. He told me that he had figured out a way that we could have a pet without having to pay the three hundred dollar pet deposit. I told him there was no way. He proceeded to tell me about a program out there that would make it possible for us to get around a pet deposit called emotional support pet. I asked him to explain it to me. He said if one of us went to our doctor and talked to him about how it would be uplifting to have a pet. Explaining that having a pet would improve mental health. If one of us could do this it would avoid all fees. I called him a liar and told him that would not work. Well at this time they had just locked the country down for covid. I am not one that likes to be around a lot of people, so I thought this stupid virus was not going to bother me. Well that was so far from the truth. Not being around people by choice was so much different from being told you can not be around people. So we both made doctor appointments to get this supposed letter from the doctor. At this point I am still not understanding how this could possibly work. While we were working on getting these appointments everything was being done virtually . Ok now that we had appointments made it was time to have the dog versus cat talk. I said I wanted a dog. I started with health being reason number one. I said if I had a dog I would lose weight. Reason being all the walking that it takes to properly take care of a dog. He wanted a cat. He said his main reason for wanting a cat was because they were low maintenance. Well he got to see the doctor before me. That meant he got his letter before me. Because it was his letter that made it alright for us to get a pet he won the cat versus dog war in this house. Well he started looking on Facebook for a cat. He did not manage to find one cat he found a bonded pair of sisters. I was pissed. I did not want a cat and he just found two of them that could not be separated. These cats were hours away so I felt I dodged a bullet. We did not have a way to get to the cats. He told the lady that had the girls that we did not have a way to get them. She offered to bring them to us. It was a Tuesday right before our bible study when they got to us. The grey cat we named Sugar. That name fits her so well. She is my sweet tooth kitty. The black and white one is named Princess. It did not take them long at all to show me why cats rule. They help me so much more than I thought a cat could. I have MS and on days when I am in pain they have their ways of knowing how to help ease the pain. It seems no matter if my pain is physical or emotional they know just what to do. Sugar is more in tune to my pain. The cats are a heaven sent. There is nothing I would not do for my fur babies. I feel they saved my life more than me save theirs. Now I do not refer to them as cats. They are my daughters. My daughter are what keeps me going at times. I am so thankful for the girls. I think everyone should experience the love of owning a pet. They become so much more than a pet. They become family. I could not imagine life without my girls.

Litter Box Tips to Prevent Urinary Tract Problems Among Cats.
Regular litter box cleaning is an important step in keeping this painful condition in check. “Cleanliness is one key to avoiding cat urinary tract problems,” says veterinarian Melissa Brookshire. “Urinary tract obstructions, evidenced by straining without producing any urine, are emergency situations that require immediate veterinary attention. Once diagnosed and treated, steps for prevention should become routine. Having a fresh, clean litter box can go a long way in preventing this affliction.”
