It's been said that people that hate cats will come back as mice in their next life.
How Cat People Discouraged me From Getting a Cat
“I had a cat once who would wake me up every morning just a minute or two before my alarm went off by tapping me on the mouth with his paw. Not that hard, but not that gentle either, with his claws extended just a tiny bit. ‘Hey, time for breakfast, bud.’ ” — Josh Fruhlinger as quoted in The Guardian

Her Name was Riley
I called her Riley because she came to me at a time when I was opening up to a more spiritual way of living. I looked up "prosperity" in the thesaurus and found "the life of Riley". I hadn't even met her yet, but I knew I wanted her name to remind me of what I had to be grateful for.

Bold As Brass
It was 3am, and the air was hot and heady with the scent of the coming storm. The highway stretched monotonously into the distance, the moon my only driving companion now while my family slept. I thought maybe I could keep going without a break, make it to my In-Laws before dawn. My eyes grew heavy, the road blurring slightly as I tried to stay alert. I don’t know what made me choose that exit, but without even realizing it I was indicating and heading for the nearest gas station, the word ‘coffee’ flashing in my mind like a beacon. So strange; I rarely touched the stuff and especially never at night, yet here I was suddenly craving that caustic, bitter kick of caffeine.

Every Creature Has a Backstory
The room of my apartment felt dark and the walls seemed as though they were caving in on me. Reflecting back on this chapter of my life, everything seemed as though I was seeing life through a black and white filter. The depression I found myself in, muted the colors and noises around me. I barely had enough energy to do the bare minimum-- often just enough to save me from getting fired from work. For an overachiever like myself, coasting hit my pride hard. I would muster up just enough strength to get out of bed only to find myself in the shower, crumpled into a ball, my chest throbbing with excruciating pain. I sat there sobbing and grabbing my chest until the shower turned ice cold. Maybe the worst part of it all was finally getting to work and acting like everything was fine. Gosh, it would take a lot of energy to perform and put on a show for everyone.

His Name was Spooky
His name was Spooky, and he taught me everything I've ever needed to know about unconditional love. He came to us late in the evening, in the middle of winter, through a hole in our foundation and thus into the crawl space in the basement. A small, swollen thing caterwauling so loudly I assumed he was a pregnant female about to give birth. His stomach was hugely swollen, so my assumption can be forgiven.

Kitty Kisses: How I Met My Bestie
There are countless stories of pets saving the lives of their owners: cats saving children from dog attacks or protecting them from the freezing cold; dogs saving their owners from snakes or wild coyotes, among many heroic tails.

A Tale of Two Cats
One night around 10pm in July I was traveling home from Malanda, I go up every week to perform in a large band you see. On my return home I turned on my car's heater, being July in Australia, it gets very cold up in the hills. Upon my descent down the range like road I noticed a large cardboard box on the side of the road, being a respectable person towards nature I dislike litter and decided to pull over and pick it up. Upon stopping and getting out of my car I could hear the faint meowing of kittens, sadly to my horror when opening the abandoned box, I discovered a litter of kittens, 7 in total. They were frozen solid and shaking, a few were asleep and I feared the worst. I picked up the box and put it on my front seat, blasting the heater onto them. The whole drive home I checked on them, making sure that they were ok and getting enough heat.

Mittens
In April of 2020, my elderly Persian cat had to be put down because of all the pain he was in from not functioning anymore. For years, he was loved by my whole family, coming to us when my grandmother became too old to take care of him anymore. 2020 was already a rough year, but on top of Sonny's passing, the whole house was down. Our two-year-old rescue, Blinky, who we had found at about six weeks old abandoned in the middle of an intersection, was lonely and depressed with his grumpy friend now gone. Blinky would wander the house for Sonny before settling to watch the birds by himself.

You call Chris a little after 2pm. Hey, come meet me at Tricia’s, there’s a dog that needs our help. Chris shows up quicker than he’s ever shown up after a call. He must have raced across town. You and Tricia are in her back yard, looking through a gap in the chain-linked fence.
