Inspirational and healthy ways to lose weight.
I Want to Live!
“Make sure I wake up.” That was the last thing I said when I was laying on the operating table getting ready for surgery. The anesthesiologist was about to put the mask on my face and put me to sleep, and all I could think about was ensuring I would be alive come the end of the day. I was terrified of the surgery, but I was even more terrified of what my life would be if I didn’t get it.

Losing Everything, Except Weight
Looking at the title, you might think this is an article about advice on how to lose weight from someone who lost a bunch of weight. Unfortunately, this is not one of those articles. Weight loss is a hard journey, and a lot of times along the way you lose a lot more than just weight. I know every time I’ve tried to lose weight, I only ended up losing hope, self-esteem, sleep, confidence, and motivation. My aim in this is to share my experiences as someone who has tried to lose a significant amount of weight in the past and has been very unsuccessful. Hopefully, this article can shed some light for others in the same situation feel less alone in their journey to weight loss.

A Big Man's Hollywood. Top Story - August 2017.
*Note — I wrote this article ten years ago. Since then, I've moved back to New York, got married and left the industry. I currently work in nonprofits as the National Director of a small organization and am, unfortunately, in the midst of a divorce (more in my next piece).

Top Tips for Getting in Shape
Before reading this, you might want to ask yourself what exactly "being in shape" means for you. Is it simply to lose weight and fit into that stunning outfit you've been dying to show off, currently impossible due to the unflattering bulges around your belly? Is it to be healthy, to add years to your life and a daily beam on your face as you munch on superfoods and sip your smoothies? Is it to build muscle and use those glutes, biceps and abs to their greatest advantage?

The Day I Stopped Taking Pictures.
If you know me, you know I love taking pictures, more like being in the picture though. I remember at some point my sister had become my personal photographer, we had real photo shoot sessions till she grew a bit older and realized that she was actually NOT my slave(just so you know, she is the one that takes endless pictures now). Growing up, I would say I was pretty skinny until I hit puberty and as expected, my body started to change. It became fuller and with the kind of women in my family, it was inevitable that I was soon to inherit their curves, which the Rwandan culture happens to glorify. Which goes without saying that it is the norm for a Rwandan lady to be full-figured or curvaceous as some call it. I was the norm.
