“A Kentucky girls dream”
Ever since a young age I’ve had this incline towards creating, and scissors have always been a part of that process, whether it be scrapbooking with my nana or quilting with my mom, both things I enjoyed very much, however they weren’t my thing! It wasn’t until later in life when I found what truly made me happy, I remember the exact moment I watched my first ever fashion show, the behind the scenes caught my attention and by far in my opinion the best part, watching the creator mesh and mash their image upon a living and breathing canvas was beautiful, the way she would cut the garment too the perfect length and the way it’d flow on stage was outstanding, she knew what she wanted and she achieved that, it was marvelous! The way she brought to life what once was only an image in her mind, had me in complete and utter “aww” I couldn’t help but sit there and dream of what I’d cut and create if I were in her place and that’s what led me to my true passion, Sewing and upcycling times forgotten pieces and bringing them back to life in my vision!
The thrill I receive when thrifting is outrageous nothing beats hunting down and finding that one special piece that you know you’ll be able to remaster and create into something even more jaw dropping then before, and the thought of the client who will one day cherish this garment and love it as much as I did is beyond gratifying! It reminds me of why I do the thing that I love and that others do appreciate my process and creativity and knowing those things don’t go unnoticed keeps the dream alive! The thrill of the process is unlike any thrill I’ve experienced and believe me I’ve experienced thrills.
When creating I always take into consideration the previous artists vision their concept and design, I try to put myself in there place but in today’s society and never want too take from the original vision, I aim to enhance those little details that were overlooked or seen as unnecessary at the time, I highlight the craftsmanship of the designer while also adding to the design itself and highlighting my craftsmanship!
As times pass so do fashion trends and fads, but that doesn’t mean that the clothing itself is no longer viable or unable to be treasured by someone else, it just means that the love for them has faded, and all love even old, can be revived! With the right pizazz and the perfect cut and vision and creation an old dingy band t can be transformed into so many things, a dress for date night, a tank top for those hot summer days , a skirt the club will be sure to love and sooooo much more, the possibilities are endless when you let your passion and creativity flow!
The amount of harm our environment and eco system endures countless year after year as a result of our waste as humans of textile products is tremendous, Statistics show that we as Americans produce over 13 million tons of textile waste a year, and if we don’t do our part that number will continue to rise! The dyes and chemical from textile waste alone can easily contaminate the ground and even the water! As well all materials decompose at different rates one time may take 2 years too decompose as another could take as long 40! A large part of clothing items we toss out each year could easily be upcycled and not only be super fashionable but also save the earth while doing so!
The amount of passion and joy I get not only from being able to express myself but also being able to help the environment and make someone else look damn good whilst doing so Is unlike any other, so please believe in yourself, follow your dreams continue to grow and never let that passion die, I know I sure won’t!
