Salvation
The snow-flakes flurry slowly around your cardboard box. True winter’s cold wraps around your fingers like a snake crushing its prey. You had lived through a few winters in the alley you called home, the box providing little shelter from your frozen hell. Water trickles from your nose and freezes to your thick black moustache. You are thankful you are able to grow the thick bushy beard that hangs from your chin, keeping your face warm. You watch as the yellow cabs race noisily on the main street and dream of warmer days.

My Little Black Book
It all started with that little black notebook. I'd received it in the mail on my birthday. No sender was listed and the enclosed note simply read "Happy Birthday!" I flipped through the empty pages and wondered who sent it. The notebook itself was clearly high quality. It had an elastic closure and an attached bookmark with lined pages. Whoever sent it even personalized it with my name at the bottom. I didn't need a notebook though, so I tossed it on a shelf and planned to keep it there.

LBB.
“Come on you pussy, hit me!”, she spat, her words like venom. She had nothing left to lose, and her world as she knew it was crumbling around her. He took a step towards her. She had struck a nerve, had she? He was positively seething. His dark, narrowed eyes were fixated on hers. This was the most emotion she had witnessed from him in a long time.

Ember
Tears streamed down her face as she stood on the cliff edge, mixing as they ran down her cheeks with the rain that was falling in sheets across the vast expanse of steely grey. Sobs wracked her chest, the sound of them drowned by the waves crashing on the rocks below. Snot flowed from both nostrils and her hair was plastered to her forehead, but Meg didn’t care. Who was she trying to impress? The unfortunate dog walker who would find her once the storm had passed? The coroner performing her autopsy? It didn’t matter now. None of it mattered anymore, now that it was all about to be over.

Little Black Book
On the way to the bus, I stopped to smell the roses. There were many roses lined up and down the streets of Salem, Oregon. The euphoria from the wonderful smells lit up my nose and made my head dizzy. The smile I had on my face and the happy feelings I was having were leading to a crazy and manic state.
