Artist Without A Cause
I’ve always had a creative streak and yet after trying on multiple hats, I’m still struggling to find my medium. As a formally gifted child, harnessing both my strong academic skills and nurturing my artistic skills felt urgent, I craved an outlet for everything although I would later discover through becoming self aware that I was just trying to be anything other than me. Harsh situations in childhood led to at age thirteen being hurled into mental health issues and a had a great need to express myself even though the deep sadness left me so devoid of confidence and energy to pursue anything in the way that all great artists do through determination and discipline.

In 2005, Leonardo Da Vinci's famous Salvator Mundi painting was sold for $1175. In 2017, the same painting was sold for $450 million to Saudi crown prince Mohammed bin Salman, making it the highest-priced art ever. But it turned out to be fake. The prince pressured the Louvre museum to lie about the authenticity and exhibit it alongside Mona Lisa to spare the public humiliation of having spent $450 million on a fake painting.

Blossoming Marigolds
The students were all gathered together, seated at what looked like a long vertical dining table created by their individual desks. The playlist of student requested songs played on a laptop in the background to help support a mood that would drive the working class towards completing their projects for their upcoming student showcase. During the last few weeks of the students’ summer program, I was partly in charge of teaching on the topic of art and music. To me this was great! Not that I have ever been some sort of musical genius and I still do not know if my half written songs will even be considered works of art to be studied by on looking admirers long after I am gone. And even though I know art is comprised of more than just drawing, I to this day often chuckle to myself when noticing my attempted drawings of human figures continue to resemble much of what I drew in grade school. In any case, I have always enjoyed the encouraging message of hope and comfort through the listening and creation of music. I have discovered for every season in life there is a song that can somehow make its way to the address of the soul to whom it is intended to be felt by as if it had a life of its own and in a way being an extension of the person or persons who composed it. The unique ability music contains to act as a living being that can seemingly manifests itself into one’s consciousness has always been a power I have hoped it would lend me for the sake of helping heal or encourage others.

Before everything fades away
I was on lookout at the corner of the alley while Mary began spray painting the wall. It was just after midnight, and the hot June day had melted into a beautiful evening. I glanced over as she unleashed a long flowing spray of orange that twisted into itself. She repeated it a few more times, and her movement cast wild shadows beneath dim lights along the back of the shop wall. We probably wouldn’t get caught but adrenaline still surged through me. I felt alert.

Thank You For The Music
Music has been a special part of my life for as long as I could remember. It’s hard to trace back to how and when the love of music snuck up on me, but before I knew it, it had already been long in place. It could have been during one of my last days in kindergarten, when I was almost 6 years old. I was running around with my friends in the courtyard during recess, when suddenly the PA system started playing a popular children song in Vietnam at the time: “Goodbye, my beloved doll”.
