Roger Corman’s 'Amazons' Feminist Movie
Put a strong female actor in the jungle, sword in her hand, with producer Roger Corman in charge and you have the beginning of Amazon movies. Not Amazon.com, but actually Amazonian women in movies. Corman is a legendary masters of genre filmmaking. Post–Texas Chainsaw Massacre era, Corman's base of operations was New Horizon Pictures, located in the Brentwood Section of Los Angeles. Along with comedy films like The Last Resort with Charles Grodin and a children's movie called The Dirt Bike Kid, Corman took a try at a spin-off of the sword-and-sorcery genre: the warrior-woman film. Roger Corman’s Amazons took a new look at feminism in cinema.

Most Powerful Comic Book Characters of All Time
For years millions and millions of fans all over the world have followed comic book characters. Maybe it stems from the desire to be immortal, but the strength that comic book characters posses is a one that we are all jealous off. Their power is more than just physical strength—they hold the fate of worlds in their hands. With great power comes great responsibility though, right? Some, without ever wielding a weapon, hold the power to both create and destroy with just their minds. Others do wield weapons, but only the most powerful and dangerous. No matter how they achieved their power, each of them has earned a place on the list of most powerful comic book characters of all time.

Original Special Effects Man Sass Bedig
Sass Bedig (1913-2000), among countless other professional distinctions, is the man who made the blood flow in most of the gory Sam Peckinpah 1970s tough guy movies. When Sam was ready to let it gush, the original special effects man, Sass Bedig, was called in.

History of Emoji
Emoji, those adorable little smiley faces or other symbols that are used for messaging, are swiftly dominating global communication. The seemingly innocuous pictures are often scoffed at for serving as the bulk of Millennial conversation, but abbreviations like “IDK” and “NSFW” have even become common articles for older cell phone-toting adults.

Foreign Film History
It's getting harder and harder these days to remember that once upon a time there was such a thing as honest-to-goodness foreign films. Back before Black American Express cards and Amazon Prime, before a flight to Europe was less than six hours and when England was still a long boat ride away, there was a sense of illicit adventure in going to those out-of-the-way theaters that specialized in showing films made abroad. The unfamiliar backgrounds and the struggle with the subtitles were all part of the feeling that you were peeking through a keyhole into another world.

History of the 'Evil Dead' Franchise
A plague threatens to destroy all of mankind and the only one that can save us is a loner who is avoiding all responsibilities. The Evil Dead is an American horror film franchise created by Sam Raimi and consists of four feature films. The films revolve around the Necronomicon Ex-Mortis, an ancient Sumerian text which wreaks havoc upon a group of cabin inhabitants in a wooded area in Tennessee. The protagonist, Ashley J. "Ash" Williams is the only character to appear in every installment of the original trilogy, consisting of The Evil Dead (1981), Evil Dead II (1987), and Army of Darkness (1992), all written and directed by Raimi.

Was 'The Warriors' the First Gang Movie?
An eighteen-year-old honors student was getting some refreshments during an intermission to Paramount's The Warriors at an Oxnard, California, movie theater when another youth demanded a quarter from him. He refused, and was stabbed to death. The Warriors, the first gang movie, had dropped into the the theater that night. It dropped out the very next day. It was winter 1979, and there were still intermissions during movies.

Mafia in American Cinema
In 1973, a showdown occurred between what is considered two of the best films in cinematic history at the Oscars. Ultimately though, Francis Ford Coppola’s The Godfather walked away with the Best Picture prize, beating out Cabaret and Liza Minnelli’s signature acting role. If you know anything about how the Oscars works, the Hollywood elite, and the stories they like, the win for The Godfather is not that surprising. That is to say, the story that appeals the most to the American consciousness will always walk home with the most awards or in the very least, Best Picture (here’s looking at you Argo).

History of DC Comics
In a world that has been overtaken by the comic book film, it’s pretty important to understand and learn about where the main comic companies come from and how they came to be. One of the most famous companies is DC Comics. DC Comics is commonly seen as the main rival to Marvel Comics and proved to be a venture into darker territory for the comic book industry. DC Comics is known for its eclectic mix of heroes and villains, ranging from the iconic Superman and Batman to the dastardly like Joker and Zod. DC Comics can lay claim to much of what made comics what they are today, but the question is, how did they come to such prominence? How were they affected by the comic book censors? And what launched characters like Superman and Batman to such meteoric measures of fame? This is the history of DC Comics.

How the Ghostbusters Franchise Fought for Survival
When the Ghostbusters trailer was released in May 2016, critics and fans alike did not seem to greet the idea of a reboot with much excitement. Many whined about the lack of solid jokes during the nearly three-minute segment, the all-female cast (although I don’t see any validity in that complaint), and the lack of returning stars. The original cast consisted of Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Rick Moranis, Harold Ramis, and Ernie Hudson. These actors collaborated on one of the greatest movies of all time, and they followed up with what most can agree to be a respectable sequel. So why did the Ghostbusters franchise have to fight for survival after the 80s? And why the big switch up in 2016?
