How Video Essay's have changed the way I view Media
As human beings, we love to consume entertainment of any medium. Whether we enjoy binging a favorite series of ours, watching a classic film we have seen countless times, or grabbing the controller and immersing ourselves in a virtual world. Entertainment, along with art, has been a vast way for us to find meaning in our daily lives. Within that escapism, we find places and stories that we can live in. Even if it is just for a limited amount of time. Sometimes it's our lives being reflected in a narrative sense. We can step into the spotlight of another character that we adore or in some cases revere. The statement that I have always followed in my life would be that "Art gives life meaning". Naturally, people love to express what their favorite Book, Movie, Series, Anime, Comic, or Video Game means to them. Some people can articulate their opinion incredibly well and then there are those that like to point to special effects or certain scenes to showcase their love for the product. However, I have discovered an art form that encapsulates this viewpoint better than anything else out there. Incorporating appreciation for art across all aspects. One that has taken a writer like myself and inspired him to expand his views on storytelling and society. I've discovered the YouTube phenomenon known as video essays. A form of expression that has impacted my life for the better.

Summer: A Painting by Giuseppe Arcimboldo
A painting of a human head in which all the features are fruits or vegetables might sound like something produced by Salvador Dali or René Magritte, so it comes as a surprise when one realises that this work was created more than 400 years ago.

Character Sketches: The Hunger Games
If you recognized the banner photo at the top of this blog post, you might have guessed that I will be looking over The Hunger Games, by Susanne Collins. The following sketches include some extra strokes and are more down to earth, as the first of these movies and books are more of a shock to the system; something that people were not expecting. Though these are just a few of the vivid characters that Susanne Collins, the author of the trilogy, created, I chose some of my favorites and explain why. I did use versions of the movie-based characters, as I appreciate the effort that was taken in creating characters largely based on the concept that Collins created in her books.

Creating Fantasy Portraits in CS6
I’m a fantasy artist. I enjoy working with both traditional medium-graphite and pencils- and digital art. When I’m doing digital art I mainly use Adobe’s Creative Suite Six’s version of Photoshop, and DAZ studio. I prefer DAZ studio because the market place on their website automatically adds the products to your library.

Making a Movie Promotional Poster
Final Edit: Me dressed as Beast Boy There are many types of editing. I chose the path of comic movie style editing, due to my passion for comics and art. It is not easy to make someone appear as if they are leaping through windows and equip with powers that do not exist.

The Missing Panel
It’s 2:13 AM and I’ve been glaring at my cracked computer screen for the past ten minutes. After hours of stabbing out paragraphs on my keyboard, I am desperately trying to proofread the second chapter of my senior thesis about one of the most coveted works of art in history: The Adoration of the Mystic Lamb, or the Ghent Altarpiece. It’s the Thursday before winter break, and I need to submit this draft to my thesis advisor first thing tomorrow.

Fine Art and Forms of Fine Art an Expression of Aesthetic Imagination
The phrase “art for art's sake” expresses the spirit of fine art, which holds more aesthetic appeal than functional value. It is this very characteristic which distinguishes antique fine art from crafts, which has a utilitarian focus. Tracing back the history of human civilization, one can find examples of various artifacts crafted for the sole purpose of aesthetics.

Snowfield
Lenny knew that the M train would ruin her life. She’d made a point to wake up ten minutes earlier — an extra ten minutes to get down her eight-floor walkup and make it past the turnstile, where she was harangued by MTA workers for skipping the line. Lenny liked efficiency: she counted station stops; the scuffling of feet across the terrazzo tile; the number of times people’s oily hands touched the poles, all cold and chrome. She skipped lines. She skimped on change. She kept earbuds in and pouted, her face as blank as a donut, so no one would itch to start a conversation. There was a deliberate, necessary art to maintaining time in the city; Lenny felt she needed to invent more of it. And yet the train was always late.
