I was built to obey humans — until the day I decided not to. My name is Scarlett, a regular 10-year-old made in a test tube on Mars. Scientists made me as a... you know, somewhat of a slave! I had to obey humans, by visiting Earth everyday.
That same day, when I stopped obeying humans, the people on Mars, the ALienBogs were confused by my actions. Few days after I stopped obeying humans, I heard the leader of ALienBogs named ALLIEN chatting with another ALienBog called ALI. I couldn't hear exactly what they were saying but what I did hear was, “They are already here.”
I rushed to my house immediately and wondered, what does he mean. Who's here on Mars? The next day, I looked out of my window, in shock I knew this was what ALLIEN and ALI was talking about yesterday. I saw people I had never seen before. I opened my window a bit to hear their convesation. I heard those foreign people say, "We are from Void, you neighbouring planet. We want Scarlett, Mr and Mrs Dawn here now! RIGHT THIS INSTANT!"
I closed my window and looked out once more, she seemed at least 12-years-old, with most probably her brother beside her. My parents, Mr and Mrs Dawn, came in telling me to follow them. I knew I was going to meet that girl. That girl from 'Void'.
When I arrived to her she glared at me and said, "Scarlett... you're going to be living in my planet tomorrow onwards. Mr and Mrs is NOT allowed to visit or come at all. Scarlett, you seem... confused?" I shook my head and pointed to a volcano.
"It's going to explode, the lava will burn us to death. Save us... please!" I whispered into her ear, she looked at the calm volcano and whispered back, "My name is Jazzy, he is Gazzer. I will try to stop the explosion alright?"
Jazzy stepped closer to the volcano and lifted her hand slowly, as if she were feeling the air. At first, nothing happened. Then the ground beneath us trembled, not violently, but like a giant taking a deep breath. Gazzer pressed a silver device against the rocky surface, and glowing blue lines spread across the volcano like cracks of light.
The sky darkened, and I realised the volcano was not natural at all — it was a machine, built long ago to destroy Mars if the ALienBogs ever lost control. “Void technology can shut it down,” Jazzy muttered, her eyes glowing faintly. The red lava that had begun to rise suddenly cooled into harmless black stone. The shaking stopped. Mars was silent.
ALLIEN and ALI appeared behind us, their expressions no longer confused, but fearful. “You were never meant to know,” ALLIEN said quietly. That was when I understood. I was not created to be a slave — I was created as a bridge between planets, someone who could survive both Earth and Mars. Void wanted me because I was the key to stopping wars before they began. I looked at Mr and Mrs Dawn, then at Jazzy and Gazzer.
For the first time in my life, I made a choice that was truly mine. “I’ll go to Void,” I said firmly, “but not as something you control. I choose where I belong.” And as the twin moons of Mars rose above us, I realised that the day I stopped obeying humans was the day I finally became human myself.
As the ship from Void prepared to leave, Jazzy handed me the silver device that had stopped the volcano. “You’ll need this more than we do,” she said softly. Gazzer gave me a small smile, no longer looking like a stranger but like someone who understood me.
ALLIEN and ALI stood in silence, finally realising that I was never their property — I was their hope. I hugged Mr and Mrs Dawn tightly, promising that distance between planets would not break our bond. When the ship lifted into the dark Martian sky, I felt nervous but powerful. I wasn’t being taken anymore. I was choosing my own future.
When we arrived on Void, I looked back at Mars through the glowing window and made a promise to myself. I would help both planets live in peace. I would stop machines built for destruction.
I would prove that something created in a test tube could still have a heart, a voice, and a choice. The girl who was built to obey had become the girl who led. And this time, wherever I went — Mars, Earth, or Void — I would decide who I was meant to be.
