The Berry Best Summer Food
To me, there is only one flavor that says “summertime”. I will admit, it’s not that common unless you’re from the Pacific Northwest. While I certainly love hot dogs, corn on the cob, or s’mores cooked over a campfire… none of those will ever evoke the same nostalgia and simple joy I get from eating the humble blackberry.

Exotic Beauty
The Amaranth or Redroot Pigween is a herbaceous plant that is known for its magenta-colored catkin flowers which bloom in the autumn and the summer. The plant has egg-shaped leaves with hairy stems and branches. It is widespread through temperate regions in northern and southern hemispheres but is endemic to the northern, eastern, and central regions of the US.

Corn
If anyone were to ask me what food reminds me of summer, my answer would not be ice cream. It also wouldn’t be snow cones from the sno shack. Nor would it be the delectable watermelon…because I don’t like watermelon. No, it would be that yellow pillar of deliciousness. That multi-purpose kernel of everything that we love about food. We use a body part to describe it because why not? Everyone has ears and everyone loves corn. Well not everyone, but we can’t all be perfect, can we?

Planting flowers
Planting flowers, in the young mind, is to pinch off the flowers and bury them in the soil, water them, and wait day after day. Until the surrounding flowers are thanked, those in the soil or no movement. Later read the Dream of the Red Chamber, know that is buried flowers, carry a flower hoe, dig a pit, sweeping out the red buried flowers soul. So much so that later in the network, do not forget to use the time of the falling flowers as a network nickname.

Threaten Your Tree and It Will Bear Fruit. Top Story - June 2022.
I Talk to My Plants While some articles claim that talking to plants makes them grow, there is no scientific evidence to prove it. It does not matter anyway, there are plenty of people who do it — myself included. Other than to seem crazy to some people, there’s nothing wrong with telling a plant how beautiful it is, or how tall, or asking it why it looks sad. In some weird way, I think they do hear us. Here’s my take on this topic.

Summer Tastes Like Granite
Drop a fluffy slice of continental shelf on a plate of oceanic crust. Add water. Subduct. Be advised episodes of extreme shaking will periodically occur. If near the coast during a full rip of the subduction boundary, drop everything, pick up the kids and pets, move to high ground, hold on to something that won’t fall on you, and remain calm. The shaking will pass ( so will aftershocks, eventually).

Some Thoughts on Nature and Culture
Just going to toss this out there and get right into it… Animals and plants have culture. This statement is one of my core beliefs and has guided me to include animism as part of my spiritual path. By the current scientific understanding of what culture is, you could easily tell me I’m wrong. (I mean, I’m not wrong, but you could say I was if you really wanted to.) By definition, culture is a human-centric concept held together by “the customs, arts, social institutions, and achievements of a particular nation, people, or other social group…” Animism asks us to broaden our concept of what culture is to include everything in our natural world — to perhaps expand our understanding of what life, sentience, consciousness, and soul really are. One of the ways we can do this is through immersion.

Mulching For Effective Soil and Water Conservation
Mulching is one of the most common forms of agriculture practiced worldwide. However, we need to understand that mulching is not just about cutting grass and putting it over the soil. The mulching process is a lot more complex than that. This blog will explore the process of mulching, its types, and the different benefits that it can bring to the soil. The mulched materials are chosen to keep in mind the health of the soil, characteristics of the crop and the soil type.
