New Beginnings
The morning light that flows through the window of the bunkhouse is muted and barely wakes me. “Another gloomy day” I muse as I stretch out my limbs on my top bunk, conscious of my housemates breathing and stirring. I contemplate staying under my warm blankets with my wispy dreams but I force myself to climb quietly down my ladder.

Mr Big
In an attempt to keep the department store “with the times,” a Chief Innovation Officer was brought on to lead the way. “Apparently, the new CIO is best friends with Elon Musk,” confidentially shared, the Head of Human Resources, Tom Morrow. “His name is Kimesh and he comes highly recommended!” proudly explained Tom during his regular gossiping session in the staff canteen. The new CIOs' affiliation with the Space Program alone had made his arrival quite anticipated amongst the other employees.

I Quit
With a lifetime of knowing how to find the good and bad in every person I meet, the normal tricks won't work on me. I know your honeyed words are a lie, a clever ploy to get me to open up to you and give you ammunition to shoot me in the back. Nothing personal passes through these lips to your ear. You don't deserve the satisfaction of putting me down behind closed doors. I see how you talk to each other, interact, joke, laugh, and go about your day. I also see how you all insult and spread rumors when the other isn't looking. Although it may not be obvious that I'm paying that close attention, I assure you that I am. The hushed words whispered in the room are not that silent, but I think you're all aware of that, aren't you? Otherwise those words wouldn't be spoken aloud while those you torment are across the room.

Complementing Flavours
Clink! Sheryl looked up from her desk, startled at the noise that had caught her attention. Her view slowly spanned up from the paperwork she was signing, to a plate of chocolate cake that was recently placed on her desk, to the retracting arm that had just placed it there, to the man connected to that arm who was staring her dead in the eye.

“Enjoy Your Meal”
Picture this, it’s a busy Saturday night. You’re at your favorite restaurant with your family. You were on a waitlist for a half hour and the line out the door has only gotten longer. After a little while you’ve just gotten your food. Your server asks if you need anything. You reply with a no. She then says, “enjoy your meal!”

Cake Harmonics
Luxury Department Store | 2.45 pm | Summer Sale “Oh, God! Looks like Wyatt is fired!” gasped Angela Slow-Sponge, Bath & Leisure Sales Advisor, as we both stared in complete disbelief out of the staff canteen’s window watching Wyatt Hertz escorted out of the building by uniformed guards.

Dark Night of the Soul
You have to be careful when you ask questions. When you stare at the foundation of society, or looking back on your own life and doubt whether or not what you’ve been told is your authentic truth or if it’s an echo of something else, something sinister that provides temporary comfort but never satisfaction.

15 things I don’t miss about office
One morning in February 2020 when the weather was beautiful and the pigeons were circling the clouds while I was closing the windows and pulling the curtains, I paused and wondered if I should call in sick at work and stay home to admire the view and enjoy my limited time on earth.

I couldn't work for WHSmith
There are few things that will seemingly last forever, whatever happens. Cockroaches, Happy Meals, WHSmiths. The way the world is, it's incredible that while many high street shops are in trouble or closing down, the most baffling of mainstays on the British high street remains. WHSmith. If you need a bomb shelter, you might as well find yourself finding salvation in the husk of a WHSmith.
