Supporting New Hobbies
Be a wingman/wingwoman
Though you and your partner might have a lot in common, there might be times when your partner wants to try a new hobby or experience with you by his or her side. Try to be optimistic when this happens and do your best to open your mind so you and your partner can bond over this new adventure. Of course, there are certain situations when you might not be able to join him or her, like if the experience entails something that goes against your religious beliefs or political views, but hopefully by the time you are together, you understand this about each other.
It is good to challenge each other when it comes to new experiences. This is how people grow and learn. This is also how people bond with each other. While trying new things, the two of you might learn different things about each other that you didn’t know before. You might even find a new hobby that you like doing with each other.
This also gives you and your partner a chance to network with other people that you meet during your new experiences and possibly make new friends that you and your partner can hang out with in the future. This can open doors to future activities and fun that you might be able to have with other couples, and depending on how close you get to the other couples, you might find that you have new friends to talk to about the barriers that you run into with your own life. It also gives you the support of other people, which might be nice if you and your partner run into a situation that is challenging.
Trying new experiences also helps you and your partner learn about new things that neither of you might have known about before. You might try a woodworking shop and realize that both of you are good at making furniture. This might inspire the two of you to open up a new business or give you both the skills that you need to make your own holiday gifts, saving you money. You might go hiking and realize that both you and your partner have an interest in exploring the world. This might give you the idea to go on a vacation where both of you can see new things and explore together. Exploring new experiences with your partner can open doors that you didn’t even know were there, and it can help you find the next step in your life together whether it be a business venture or an adventure that the two of you take together to see new things.
New experiences also build new memories. Think about it. If you and your partner end up staying together for a long time, you will have stories that you can tell the potential children that the two of you have together or the potential grandchildren that you have. You and your partner will be able to remember those times and how you felt during them, and this might help the two of you feel closer to each other. Going through experiences together can help both of you motivate each other to do more things. It might also help the two of you build trust within your relationship. For example, if you decide to go on a long road trip and the two of you get lost, you will have to rely on each other to find a way to get where you need to go. This can help both of you know how well you work together and if the other person has your back, even in the most difficult of situations.
