“Les pêcheurs de perles”
“Les pêcheurs de perles: A Symphony of Love and Loss" In my work, "Les pêcheurs de perles," I’ve created a mixed-media piece that explores the themes of love, loss, and the profound connection between two souls. The title, which translates to "The Pearl Fishers," is a direct reference to the opera by Georges Bizet. The central narrative of the opera—a deep friendship challenged by love and sacrifice—serves as the emotional anchor for this piece. The painting is a dynamic collage of color, text, and unconventional materials. The central space is dominated by text blocks that quote a pivotal moment from the opera, a conversation between two friends, Nadir and Zurga, who are fishermen. The fragments, "YOUR HEART UNDERSTOOD MINE," are repeated and broken up across the canvas, reflecting the fragmented nature of memory and the way we cling to certain phrases or moments from a powerful relationship. The text, rendered in bold red and white, stands out against a backdrop of deep blues, purples, and blacks, a visual representation of the tumult of the sea and the emotional depths of the human heart. The use of ripped paper from old books or manuscripts adds a layer of history and scholarship, suggesting that the emotions explored here are timeless and universal, a part of a larger human narrative.

“Kid Anne”
Kid Anne: A Visual Monologue on Trauma and Identity" In this work, titled "Kid Anne," I sought to create a deeply personal and emotionally charged portrait that explores the complexities of trauma, innocence, and the lasting impact of painful experiences on one's identity. The central image is a young girl with vibrant auburn hair and a somber expression, her face a canvas of sorrow. Her tear-streaked face and downcast gaze immediately draw the viewer into her world of profound pain. The use of a realistic, almost illustrative style for the girl's face and hair contrasts sharply with the chaotic, abstract background, highlighting her as a vulnerable figure against a tumultuous world. The large headphones she wears are a crucial element, not just an accessory but a symbol of her attempt to block out the overwhelming noise of the world and the internal chaos she is experiencing. They are her only shield, her only escape. The title, "Kid Anne," is a deliberate choice. It removes the anonymity of the subject, making the pain feel incredibly real and personal, as if we are looking at a specific, named individual, not just a generalized concept of suffering. The painting is a visual monologue, a silent scream that invites the viewer to listen with their eyes.

“Breaking Free”
My thoughts: This is a very special piece to me. I made it back when I was in college, unknowing of the symbolism of it, not really paying attention to that aspect. What I can tell you now is I think this piece definitely represents me, and breaking through all of the struggles I have been in throughout my life. I used to be too nervous to share my art, thinking that I'm just not a good enough artist. Now, as I look at myself, as I have learned to overcome all these obstacles and learn to start loving myself, I look at this painting and think "wow, what an amazing individual". That makes me happier than anything.

"The Most Beautiful: A Collage of Self-Discovery and Creation" In my work, "The Most Beautiful," I sought to create a visual representation of a profound and deeply personal truth: that true beauty is found not in external appearances but in the active, engaged process of creating. This piece is a mixed-media collage that combines found text, painted elements, and various textures to form a rich tapestry of thought and emotion. The central, dominant phrase, "I feel the most beautiful when I am creating," serves as the anchor and thesis of the entire composition. The letters are bold and blocky, a deliberate choice to ground the abstract sentiment in a clear, declarative statement. This central text is layered over a chaotic yet harmonious background of ripped paper, painted textures, and scrawled marks. The background itself represents the messy, beautiful reality of life—a jumble of experiences, thoughts, and moments. It's not a pristine canvas but a working surface, reflecting the ongoing process of self-formation. The deliberate use of mixed-media is key to the piece's meaning. The fragments of text, some legible and some not, are remnants of past narratives and ideas, which I've repurposed and integrated into a new whole. This act of recontextualization is a metaphor for how we construct our identity, taking pieces of our past and our environment to build a new sense of self.

Radiant Harmony
"Radiant Harmony: An Exploration of Color, Symbolism, and Light" In this work, I wanted to create a visual representation of the profound and enduring ideal of peace. The piece, titled Radiant Harmony, is a mixed-media exploration that uses a combination of acrylics and pastels to bring a timeless symbol to life with vibrant energy. The central element is the iconic peace sign, rendered in a deep, contemplative purple. This color choice isn't accidental; purple often represents wisdom, dignity, and spirituality, which I believe are intrinsic to the true pursuit of peace. The symbol itself is composed of three distinct lines within a circle, representing the universal message of non-violence and disarmament. The lines are purposefully not perfectly straight or uniform, giving them a hand-drawn, organic quality that feels personal and accessible. The texture is a key component, with the canvas weave visible through the layers of paint, adding a tactile dimension and grounding the abstract idea in a physical reality. This texture also gives the sense that the peace sign is not a static, clean-cut logo but a living, breathing concept, constantly in a state of becoming. The edges of the purple symbol are slightly blurred and softened, as if vibrating with an inner light, and they seem to meld into the background, suggesting that the concept of peace is not a separate entity but an integral part of the world around us.

On ADHD, Routines, and Being Impatient
For most of my life, I've heard that word "routine", and some days I love it, some days I absolutely despise it! I have struggled throughout my life with sticking to and keeping routines, and it's definitely something I still struggle with every single day. Eventually, I got so frustrated from trying so many different strategies that I made my own, and it seems to be working well. Let me unravel for you how I came up with this interesting strategy.

Society should know, we are not "just women", we are strong, capable human beings! Remember never to lose hope, and always know that you are stronger than you think.
