The Diary of Bellatrix Black - February 1968
***1 February 1968, Hogwarts*** Cold and windy. It couldn’t have been Helena. Dumbledore interrogated her yesterday morning. She and her collection of romance novels disappeared from the library before lunchtime. When Leonard walked me back from my detention to the Slytherin common room, he said that at dinner, Professor Dippet introduced a thin, severe-looking young witch as the new librarian, Madam Irma Pince.

The Diary of Bellatrix Black - January 1968
***1 January 1968, Letchworth*** Intermittent snow. Yesterday I went for tea with Mother at Grandfather Rosier’s, but his guests have already gone to their next social engagement. Apparently, Alfred Mulciber received a warm invitation for all his friends to visit his cousin Abraxas Malfoy.

The Diary of Bellatrix Black - December 1967
***1 December 1967, London*** Dear Bella, Pleased to receive your last. All are healthy, thank you; with the possible exception of my eldest, whom as you know was somehow accidentally Confunded when we last went to Diagon Alley, resulting in him playing gobstones with a half blood boy whose idiotic mother brought her filthy Muggle husband with her.

The Diary of Bellatrix Black - November 1967
***1 November 1967, Hogwarts*** After the Halloween Feast last night, Leonard and I went to the library together. I had a few books to return, and we both had essays to write for Professor Flitwick. Madam Shafiq bustled around as always, tending to the books and helping students with their research. Her eyes twinkled when she looked our way, and when she passed us by, she greeted us with an affectionate smile.

The Diary of Bellatrix Black - October 1967
***1 October 1967, Hogwarts*** Clear skies for Cissy’s birthday, but cold. Mother sent a care package for all of us, with presents for Cissy—a silver comb, brush, and hand mirror set. Very fitting, for her long, lovely straight hair. Daddy’s present was a single budding rose, which, when touched, suddenly bloomed and revealed a set of pearl earrings. I got her a copy of Cosmetic Potioneering: Fifty Five Recipes for Your Natural Beauty by Portia Helens.

The Diary of Bellatrix Black - September 1967
***1 September 1967, Hogwarts*** Horrible weather. Gray and sprinkling all afternoon. Rain picked up at night. The only good thing to happen today was watching Cissy get Sorted into Slytherin. I only have three more years of putting up with the rubbish of the other Hogwarts Houses. If Daddy would let me transfer to Durmstrang I’d do it tomorrow.

The Secrets of Snapdragon Cottage
I am ready to obtain hard, objective evidence that the family cottage is haunted. The linkspan groans and scrapes as it lowers into place on the front of the ferry. Cars drive off the boat in a slow single file. I double check the connection of my bike trailer and put on my helmet. Excitement fills me with every breath of salty air. Visiting Prudence Island always feels like Coming Home.
