I've noticed that when I follow the path I enjoy most, I often end up swimming upstream. So here I am, right in the middle of it – writing about it all and more. ♡

Don't Shoot the Messenger. Honorable Mention in 500 Word Shockwave Challenge.
I grabbed my bag, laptop, papers and a granola bar, and flew out the door. I waved to my neighbour but lowered my hand when I saw her stern look as she sharply yanked her son next to her by his hood.

Found in Translation. Runner-Up in Self-Editing Epiphany Challenge.
At first I scrolled past this challenge and didn’t even consider joining in on that one. And then, a little voice at the back of my mind reminded me of a promise I had made to myself at the beginning of this year – do more new things, even, and especially, the ones out of my comfort zone. With a little sigh, I scrolled back up, instantly knowing which excerpt to use. Yep, another "do more new things" moment that happened just over a month ago.

The Moment I Froze Free. Honorable Mention in The Metamorphosis of the Mind Challenge. Content Warning.
I used to be the person who always asked, "Why won’t she just leave?" or said, "I would leave immediately if I were her." I never meant any harm or judgement with it. Those were genuine thoughts and questions because I sincerely believed it was that easy.

Watching Over You
Most of the houses were already dark as it was almost midnight. There was something so relaxing, almost meditative, about the stroll through suburban streets. The night was warm and quiet, crickets chirping the only thing to hear. The sound of summer. Anthony took his time walking home.

Weed Boss, Broccoli, and Random Squatting. Honorable Mention in Absurdist Awakening Challenge.
Oscar woke up early this Sunday morning. He noticed the radio wasn’t blasting upbeat country music like it did every other Sunday when Mum makes pancakes. Is Mum still sleeping? That's a first! What if I make the pancakes today! He had never actually made pancakes before, but how hard could it be? I just need a recipe. At that same moment he noticed that there was a piece of paper next to him on the kitchen counter. Huh, lucky me. He grabbed the recipe and went out to get the ingredients.

Now You See Me, Now You Don't
This story took place a couple of years ago, and both my mango and the answers are still missing. No, it’s not a euphemism, it’s not a metaphor, it’s not a symbol. I’m literally talking about a mango – the fruit – here. A huge mango disappeared from my fridge overnight. Without a trace.

Return to Sender
She knew she wanted out. She knew she needed out. At one point, she lost count of how many times she had tried and failed. Thinking back to that time… to the version of herself that had lived through it, it felt like looking at someone else. Someone that looked like her, but definitely wasn't her. This part of her past was bottled up, on a shelf in her mind somewhere. It would never leave, but it was in a sealed bottle, and the memories would never hurt her again. Just sometimes, when something disturbed the bottle, the contents moved and floated around a bit, reminding her of its existence.
