Perfection: A Look at the 1956 New York Yankees
On October 4, 1955, the New York Yankees were shut out in Game Seven of the World Series against the Brooklyn Dodgers, handing the Dodgers their first championship and marking the first time that the Yankees lost the Fall Classic to the Dodgers. It was a shocking setback for the Casey Stengel-managed Bronx Bombers, but as the saying goes, "The best revenge is living well." In sports, when a team gets punched in the mouth, that motivates said team to hit back, and if any team knew how to hit back in explosive fashion, it was the New York Yankees.

I will never forget that weekend in 2012. I wish I could forget the pain I was feeling in the back of my jaw. It was one of my teeth. I didn't know what the cause was. I thought it was something I had eaten; at that time, I was a bit crazy about M&Ms, usually the peanut ones. Finally, my mom told me what the issue was: my wisdom tooth.

A Look at the 1955 Brooklyn Dodgers
Throughout the history of professional sports, we have seen that one team who has a strong season, looks good enough to win the whole thing, is often favored to win it all, but fizzles out when it counts. My dad has a nickname for such teams: "fool ya teams." Each league has at least one. Smart aleck hockey fans would say that the Toronto Maple Leafs fit the bill, but the actual main "fool ya team" in the NHL is the Edmonton Oilers. The biggest such team in the NBA has to be the Philadelphia 76ers, though the Los Angeles Clippers are close, and regarding the NFL, the Los Angeles Chargers and the Minnesota Vikings definitely seem to fit the bill.

Dr. Malena Culver is always on the call at all hours of the day, medical doctors usually are. It was definitely the case late one evening, as while she was spending time with the love of her life, Reagan Schultz. The call centered on a patient at Malena's hospital, and it was someone who was pretty close to her: Aurora Curtis, Malena's longtime best friend.

Some time ago, I mentioned in an earlier story that I'm a big fan of Archie comics, with the fandom beginning with an Archie comic book being a childhood birthday present. In the time that passed, I collected a lot of the Archie comic books, digests, double digest, and even subscribed for a brief period. I've read so many of the comics so habitually that I can even recite some of them. I've read a lot of adaptations and I've seen the Archie characters on various programs, the main one being the CW series, Riverdale. Throughout all of this, for three decades, there has been one constant: my favorite character has always been Jughead Jones.

Villainess Review: Kara (Below Deck Deceit)
From what I've been seeing, Tubi has been the only thing hitting more home runs this year than Shohei Ohtani. They've really been delivering in the original film department, and in the villainess department as well, and this film, Below Deck Deceit, is yet another example. The film centers on a yacht charter that happens to have a big time celebrity guest: pop diva Sadie Woodford. Two of the crew members, Reaghan and Kyle, are briefed on not only Sadie, but her entire entourage appearing as guest on the yacht.

For Carissa White, it was a roller coaster of emotions. A car crash claimed the life of her father, Jameson White, and left his second wife, Danica Mendez, hospitalized but alive. Carissa was close with her father, who nicknamed her "Snow" because she was born on a snowy December evening, and losing him came 18 months after the sudden passing of his first wife, Carissa's mother, Lauren White.

CFL Week 9 Recap: Nobody's Perfect
Somewhere, Cedric Gyles is popping the champagne. Who is Cedric Gyles, you ask? Cedric Gyles is the last surviving member of the 1948 Grey Cup Champion Calgary Stampeders squad, the only unbeaten team in the league's history. They were not perfect, there was a tie in that run to the championship, but the team finished with a goose egg in that center column. Why would Gyles be popping the champagne? Because the Toronto Argonauts are no longer unbeaten.

5 More Shows I Am Concerned For as the Strike Continues On
So after the WGA and the AMPTP's meeting on Friday, August 4 resulted in no resolution, the strike continues. I'm going to be blunt--I'm scared. I've seen a lot of my favorite shows canceled for less than this. I didn't think this strike would be as bad as the one from 15 years prior, now...it has the potential to be exponentially worse. As I said before, it's the viewers who suffer. It's the equivalent of the familiar heartbreaking scenes at a number of houses--the writers and actors are the bickering parents, and we, the viewers, are the heartbroken children begging and pleading for Mom and Dad to stop fighting and settle things for our sake.

Reviewing Hikaru Shida's Big Win at Dynamite 200
200 episodes already?! By my mental math, that's nearly four years' worth of wrestling episodes. Time sure flies, doesn't it? October 2, 2019, that was the date that the very first episode of AEW Dynamite aired on television. August 2, 2023: that's the date that the show's 200th aired on TBS, and it was amazing. WWE Hall of Famer Rob Van Dam made his appearance on Dynamite to confront the now-villainous FTW Champion Jack Perry, and speaking of champions, we saw World Champion MJF actually bare his soul, call out Adam Cole, and officially sign a title match between the two of them at All In, the upcoming event set to take place at Wembley Stadium in London.
