Probably not as funny as I think I am

feet so fast sparks flew, shoes left earth, caught wind, helped me flee to ocean skies.

bones in the earth, tell me all your stories- I will try to weave them right.
my roots stretch far out, not in; I’m more interested in travelling far.
so much earth, between our two souls. and yet, I can still hear your heartbeat.
drowsy, lie on the burial mound. sun-drenched life atop earthen death.
ventured into the bowels of the earth; I lied, said “I’m not afraid.”
water in my eyes. it lives there, but it just won’t come out, release me
fingers trailing in the crystalline sea, floating- last time I felt peace.
should have cut the booze with more water; head and guts burned in fire rhythm.
river, wind through the plains, point the way home, to the liberty-filled sea.
cup of water, tilt head back, keep soap from eyes-for the first time, I yearned.
swim on wind currents, romp among star-speckled clouds- why return to earth?
