100 Films to Watch If You're Going to Study Film (Pt. 2)
As you already know, we've covered most of the obvious ones in "Part One" of this exercise. These posts are made to mark the end of season one of "The Filmmaker's Guide to..." and now, we move on to season two in which there are longer, more difficult films to analyse. Not the ones we've already done aren't difficult enough, let's just say the first one we're looking at for season two is a certain film by Oliver Stone. That article may be cut up into two parts since there is so much I want to say and I don't want to keep you longer than you're obliged to stick around.

100 Films to Watch If You're Going to Study Film
As you all know, I hold a MA in Film and Writing and have a lot of experience with writing and studying film. I love this medium of entertainment because it involves so much storytelling and art in order to convey a productive and interesting narrative.

Ranked: Bob Dylan's Bootleg Series
Bob Dylan's Bootleg series is probably bigger than some bands entire career's worth of recordings. We aren't finished yet since we have only made it halfway through his career - we still have so many bootlegs to go (I believe). Up to now, we've got 14 volumes of pure excellence - versions of similar songs that never made it to the album, demos and short clips and even some songs that are completely new and recorded in their entirety.

The 5 Best Covers: "All Along the Watchtower" by Bob Dylan
Today, we're going through the top five best covers of Bob Dylan's seminal minimalist era song, "All Along the Watchtower."Released as a single with the B-Side "I'll Be Your Baby Tonight" and on the great minimalist album of the 60s, John Wesley Harding (1967). This song represents the cyclical nature of humanity with its careful guitar work and its enigmatic lyrics surrounding the conversation between the "Joker" and the "Thief."

My Essential Songs: Frank Sinatra
Frank Sinatra was one of the most influential singers of the 20th Century and is still one of the best selling artists of all time. He has not only earned himself recognition in the field of music, but also in the field of film, having an academy award as another accolade to his name. He signed to Columbia records in 1943 and from then on, was an icon of teenage girls everywhere.

My Essential Songs: Nina Simone
Artist, activist, jazz musician, songwriter, composerβthose are only some of the attributes that are attached to jazz legend, Nina Simone. North Carolinian beauty and intelligence rolled up into one, she paved the way for many jazz musicians after her, being sampled in everything from rap music to pop music. Her cultural influence is phenomenal and is spread internationally. Not many musicians can say they have had the cultural influence of Nina Simone.

My Essential Songs: Michael Jackson
Musician and humanitarian, Michael Jackson is the most famous name in all of music history. There are many accolades to his name and the awards he has won are pretty endless. This has made him the most decorated artist of all time and won him the respect of the entire music industry. He's done R&B, blues, pop, swing, dance and so much more, contributing to music much more than most of the artists around him.

The 5 Best Covers: "I Shall Be Released" by Bob Dylan
"I see my light come shining..." is one of the most famous opening lines in gospel folk rock. Bob Dylan opens the chorus to his great song with this incredible line. Now, please don't be fooled as there are two versions of this song. There is one that appears on the Greatest Hits Vol. 2 and there is one, which is slightly more famous that appears on the Bootleg Vol. 11: The Raw Basement Tapes. The one on the Raw Basement Tapes is the one that people normally cover.

My Essential Songs: Hank Williams
Hank Williams is considered to be one of the most influential cultural icons of the 20th century, when it comes to country music there is nobody that can do what Hank Williams did. Hank Williams is known as the forefather of modern country music and one of the pioneers of music of the south. Personally, I love Hank Williams for his incredible amount of style and his amazing singing voice which, at the time was so unique that the majority of male country stars since have tried to copy or use influence from his sound.

My Essential Songs: Billie Holiday
If you know me, you would know that my favourite female singer in all of history is Billie Holiday. It's hard today to find people who like her as much as I do and hardly anyone listens to her anymore, it seems. (If you do, then please get in touchβmy Twitter handle is @3ftMonsterβI would love to love Billie Holiday with you). Anyways, Lady Day is one of the great queens of jazz and one of the greatest singers to ever grace music with their talent.

Playlist: 250 Songs from the 1960s
This is part two of a small series I have done, part one is on the 250 songs of the 1950s. Whether I'm going to give each of these their own part twos is unknown as of yet, but welcome to the 1960s. I'm a big 40s, 50s, and 60s music fan and well, the 1960s were a very special time for a lot of people. For example: My parents were both born in the 1960s. Bob Dylan became a household name in the 1960s. There were also these four guys called John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr that... well, you probably haven't heard of them because they are a small underground band. *Laughs in Beatles*
