The Reciprocity Twist

Changing The Way I Think About It

"The Reciprocity Twist", A Nightcafe Creation By The Author

Introduction.

I have written many pieces on reciprocity on Vocal, and the definitive piece, in my opinion, is Judey Kalchik's, which you can read here, and if you haven't read it it you should do.

The music is "Limbo Twist" by Speedy The Spider, which I like better than the Wailers' original

What Do I Mean by "The Reciprocity Twist"?

In the past, I felt that if someone commented on my stories, I should return the comment; that is just my guilt complex kicking in, but I do comment on maybe twenty stories a day, often people I don't know, as well as around ten that I have subscribed to. Sometimes I see multiple stories from an author in my feed (and you may see multiple ones from me), and I just read and leave a comment on one.

People often tell me they can't read all my Vocal stories and I tell them the only person who can do that is me. I say my Vocal publications are like a magazine or newspaper, you never read the whole lot, juts the bits that interest you.

We subscribe because we know the content is going to be excellent and, may but not always, interest us.

So I have changed my commitment to commenting on the ones that catch my eye, whether I am subscribed or not. I will commit to supporting as many creators as possible with my daily comments.

I may be just assuaging my guilt about missing so many stories, but I do know that I am giving good support.

If I miss your stories, I will get around to you when I can.

Conclusion

Thank you for reading, I really appreciate your support and will get back to you at some point.

I'm with you, Mike. I always feel like I should read more than I do, and probably should be adventurous and read stories/ poems from writers that I do not follow. There are only so many hours in the day, though.

  • That guilt is so relatable. But sometimes, being that way is very exhausting and we gotta put ourselves first. Sending you lots of love and hugs ❀️

I think we all have that problem. We want to read and comment on as much as possible, but there are only so many hours in the day, and we do have other commitments. We can only do what we can do, and just hope that we can get to all the stories that we want to read eventually.

I take meds that make me fall asleep in the middle of doing stuff...funny story, but suffice it to say. I read less than i used to despite my best efforts, still we all can only do our best...the trick is not to be calculating and just read and write because we love to. ah, the long past days when we did. sigh!

Reciprocity I agree is quite important, but I also try to think about people. If I see someone publishing a large amount and then commenting on a large amount of stories as well I think I'd like them to have some down time too. So please don't worry - you are a human being and you don't have to apologise for not getting around to everything. 🩷
