On Showing and Telling
I’m reasonably sure that even the meme about how everyone says "show don’t tell" is a meme. Naturally I’m just your average internet goblin so I'm hardly the definitive source. But what I am certain about is that this standard piece of advice isn’t worth the paper it's written on.

I wrote a book. Top Story - May 2023.
Around a month ago I finished writing a book. It's a project I started in July 2021, and it took me nearly 2 years to get a rough manuscript completed. From the time I started the book to the time I finished a complete rough draft, I earned a master's degree and moved almost 800 miles away from the place I called home my entire life. I often discredit my accomplishment because "I should have done it faster." But I often neglect all of the things I was doing in between, such as raising a toddler and working odd jobs to get by.

I’ll Be Brief
I have been writing for Vocal for a little over a year now. I wouldn’t call myself the most prolific writer. I average about one or two stories a month, but I have fun with it. Maybe someday I’ll write a book, but for now it is short stories and amusing personal anecdotes.

Coming soon: my first book!
In 2016, I noticed something strange about the clock in our bedroom, the one that been on the wall for at least a year. It was a simple clock, brown with black Roman numerals, an uncoloured picture of a house in the centre. But this time, I realised the clock had a flaw. The Roman numeral for the number 8 was backwards; the III was in front of the V. A thought popped into my head.

You Can’t Rely on Motivation, but It Helps Sometimes
“When you reach the end of your rope, tie a knot in it and hang on.” — Franklin D. Roosevelt I often end up feeling drained from the simplest activities in life. I feel tired from writing, from taking care of myself, just from getting through ordinary days. But when I feel that fatigue creeping in, I have two thoughts.
