The Houston Astros Are the Real Deal
It’s no secret that the Houston Astros are on fire. They have won 10 straight games, including a sweep of in state rival the Texas Rangers over the weekend. They currently have 41 wins through just 57 games into the 2017 campaign. That puts them on pace for 116.5 wins as of right now, if they kept winning at such a rapid pace. Of course that probably won’t happen, since every team eventually loses. But it should be noted that Houston is just the fourth team since 2000 to win 40 of their first 57 games. The 1906 Chicago Cubs and 2001 Seattle Mariners hold the record for most wins in a single season at 116. Who knows, The Astros could match that. A lot of people are saying this is the team to win the World Series, but it’s way too early to make those type of predictions. But I can tell you that this team is extremely talented in all aspects of the game.

Finding a Way to Get Duchene to Brooklyn
As the Colorado Avalanche tumble into the trade deadline and toward the end of the season, rumors swirl surrounding two of their young players in left wing and captain Gabriel Landeskog and center/winger Matt Duchene. It’s evident that Colorado needs (or wants to) rip it down to the studs and start over. GM Joe Sakic is in no hurry to move his two young stars — they don’t have expiring contracts or anything like that. His idea, it seems, is to go as young as possible, which might mean there isn’t enough room for 26-year old Duchene and 24-year old Landeskog.

Rockets or Spurs: Who Would Have the Best Chance Against the Warriors?
The NBA Playoffs are in full tilt, and the action is as intense as any of us could have expected. Although there are those match-ups that are just as scintillating as they were advertised to be, such as the Rockets/Spurs and the Celtics/Wizards series’, there are also those that are somewhat disappointing. Although it is still very early in the series, this could already be the case for the Warriors after an easy victory in Game 1 against the Jazz. As we look ahead a bit to the finals, and assuming that the Golden State Warriors go on to finish off the Jazz, which team between the Houston Rockets and the San Antonio Spurs has the best chance at beating them? The answer will probably shock you.

Bronx Bombers Are Building for the Future
The New York Yankees have always built their team with seasoned veterans and star players. In the last few years, that methodology has changed for the Bronx Bombers. Brian Cashman has made some very interesting, and smart trades in the last year. The Yankees aren’t a World Series contender anymore. But they are building a team that could be sooner rather than later. Cashman made some intriguing trades last year — most notably the Aroldis Chapman trade, in which he acquired top prospect Gleyber Torres from the Cubs. Another eye opening move was the Andrew Miller trade to the Indians, where the Yanks acquired power hitting prospect Clint Frazier and lefty Justus Sheffield. Let’s take a look at these three prospects, who could be taking the field at Yankee stadium within the next few years.

The Atlanta Braves Will Be Better Than You Think in 2017
The Braves currently have one of the best farm systems in all of the bigs, with many starting pitchers on their top 10 prospect list. But that’s not it. Led by top prospect and number one overall pick in the 2015 draft Dansby Swanson, the future is looking bright for Atlanta. Based on how they finished the 2016 season — winning 20 of their last 30 games, there is nothing but optimism in the Braves front office.

A Curious Case: How Isaiah Thomas Refuses to be SHORTchanged
In today’s NBA where “small ball” is all the rage, just how “small” is big enough to be a great player? There isn’t quite a right answer as there are many teams who seem to find themselves lost in the shuffle between tradition and being unorthodox. This is no more indicative than in the fact that teams are now looking and searching for the “big” hybrid guard, who primarily acts as the ball handler, sort of like Russell Westbrook or D'Angelo Russell. Especially in light of the fact that these very same teams are looking for “3 and D”, “swingman”, general forward types who can man the 3, 4, and perhaps a little of the 5 if need be in this wide open era of basketball. The kicker to this part is the fact that these players are generally in between the heights of 6’6–6’9, which leads to another conundrum when considering the “Greek Freak” or Giannis Antetokounmpo, who probably grew an inch while I was writing this, who plays every position and handles the ball the majority of the time. With this considered, it makes you wonder exactly what is the “ideal” size for any player, how big do you want certain positions to be, and what is too small for an NBA player? Well, the first two aren’t exactly questions that can be answered in today’s ever-evolving NBA but the last one is certainly being answered before our eyes.
