Nonverbal Learning Disabilities in Turner Syndrome
Jim Abbott, a former Major League Baseball pitcher, despite having been born without a right hand, once stated that “it’s not the disability that defines you; it’s how you deal with the challenges the disability presents you with. We have an obligation to the abilities we DO have, not the disability” (Jim Abbot). This has never been more important to instill in our students today. They learn from our actions and language how to treat others, so modeling appropriate behavior in the classroom is essential. Understanding and respecting our students as individuals, each with their own special needs, will better prepare them for success. It is our job as educators to facilitate that success, and tailor our classrooms to fit their needs. We should be aware of what our students may be going through and the challenges they face. For example, the chromosomal abnormality Turner Syndrome (TS) has many symptoms and implications in the classroom.

Operation Good Table In my completely arrogant opinion, I think that stiffing a server is just about one of the lowest acts that a human being can commit that isn't already a crime. I put it right down there with trashing a public restroom as the hallmark of a low-class individual. It is, in my _still_ completely arrogant opinion, one of those things that point you up as lacking in social graces or indeed as lacking any knowledge or sense of the social contract as a whole. It means someone needed to slap your mama. Hard.

Hard Work Pays Off—Right?
Growing up, we were told that if you work hard, it will pay off, so we've lived our lives by the rule that we would work our hardest so we could follow our dreams. I never wanted a position of power, I just wanted to succeed and make a way for myself. I'm not one to be carried. I feel worthless when I'm not working. My first real job was at Target. I loved it. I worked hard, did great, got ahead working 60 hour weeks pulling doubles. After two and a half years there and being promised things that never came, I knew it was time to move on. We were always led to believe that, if you are good at what you do, you will advance in your endeavors.
