A British elderly couple, Peter Reynolds (79) and his wife Barbie (75) who dedicated 18 years of their lives to social and educational services in Afghanistan have been detained by the Taliban. The couple was arrested on February 1 while returning to their home in Bamiyan. Since then their children and family have received no clear updates about their condition causing immense concern among their loved ones. Peter and Barbie had been running various educational projects in Afghanistan since 2009 including five schools in Kabul and a training program for mothers and children in Bamiyan. Even after the Taliban's return to power in 2021 when most foreigners and NGO employees left the country the couple chose to stay. Their reason was simple they could not abandon Afghanistan in its time of need.

Yet, there are even more subtle and harsh reasons contributing to the gender pay gap. Historically, women’s work has been undervalued, resulting in unequal pay for comparable jobs between genders. Although this practice is gradually decreasing, it still exists.
