I don't understand those self-righteous souls who set out to "save" the world from itself. The world, bubbeleh, is not "you." Author's Note: At the time of writing this piece, February 2024, Aaron Bushnell was the second person to self-immolate to protest the genocide in Palestine. Since then, there have been two other self-immolations reported that directly cite the Palestinian genocide as the reason for their act of protest. Samuel Mena Jr. and Matt Nelson both self-immolated for the Palestinian people in September and October of 2024, respectively. Mena survived the injuries he sustained, but Nelson did not. Both men stated that Israel's genocidal actions against Palestinians were their reason for this extreme and potentially lethal act. A photojournalist, a veteran, an active serviceman, and an unidentified woman... As the genocide rages on and escalates further, I wonder how many sacrifices it will take for people to listen? How much further will we need to escalate to be heard?
