controversies
It seems every time one racially-charged incident ends, a gender or religious controversy takes its place; Ruminate on the issues dividing our nation and world.

Systemic Racism vs Residual Race Dynamics
Everyone knows that there is systemic racism against blacks in America. Except, that may not actually be the case. While racism does exist, and racism needs to be addressed, such racism is expressed by individuals, not the system. Instead, what first appears to be systemic racism is actually residual race dynamics. These two phenomena are extremely different, and how we deal with these two problems is just as dissimilar.

Protests Against Racism Take Place In America
Protests have erupted across the world, sparked by the death of George Floyd, a fourty six year old black man who died when Derek Chauvin, a white police officer, knelt on his neck for almost nine minutes while Floyd was handcuffed face down in the street. Two other officers further restrained Floyd and a fourth officer prevented onlookers from intervening: During the final three minutes Floyd was motionless and had no pulse. No attempt was made to resuscitate Mr Floyd who had Chauvin's knee on his neck for several minutes. Floyd had been arrested for passing a counterfeit bill at a nearby market. Eye witnesses captured evidence of the attack and this has been widely circulated on social media and broadcast news.

INSTITUTE OF RACISM
Most white people in the US are familiar with explicit racism or racism that is a conscious choice to actively hate or discriminate someone of another race. Most white people associate explicit racism as the main form of racism in the US and believe to support racism it has to a conscious choice like joining the KKK or using racial slurs at a non-white person someone. Explicit racism is a growing problem in this country but it’s a very small part of the actual racism that occurs, often unconsciously, in this country.

Racism Is Learned Behaviour, So Is Respect For Diversity
The riots taking place in the States these past few days provokes me thinking about my history with race. I’ve lived most of my life in rural Canada, giving me distance from much racial awareness, but there has been some direct encounters.

Turn Your Rage Into Power
Rage has always been the most dreaded symptom that I experience from Borderline Personality Disorder. It tends to come out the strongest when I am extremely passionate about something, and the current events involving the murder of George Floyd have really been affecting me. The George Floyd murder ignited my BPD rage, and it has been burning off and on for days. My rage has kept me fired up and has made it hard to function, but the one good thing about experiencing BPD rage is that you can use it to inspire you to act and make positive change. If you are experiencing BPD rage, or any form of rage during this time, consider the following actions to positively channel your anger. Just remember to only do what feels right to you! And please stay safe.
