Perpetual Poverty
Perpetual poverty is a person or family not being able to leave a life of poverty no matter what they do. You may think this is not possible or maybe you are in the same situation. I have lived in this state most my adult life, I have had many jobs with different pay and lived in a few different locations to try and fix it though it never works. Don't get me wrong there are always going to be those few times a year where you feel you have escaped it just to be slammed back to the mud a month or two later.

Should Teens Be Allowed to Buy a Firearm?
There has been some controversy lately about a young man who was denied a firearm sale from a chain retailer. He was approximately 20 years old, although the story changes as time goes on. He wanted to buy a Ruger .22 caliber rifle, and denied. He is now suing the retailer for age discrimination.

University Students on Gun Violence
Richmond, Virginia— Karen sat alone in front of a scaling glass wall, overlooking the heart of Virginia Commonwealth University’s campus. She cautiously warmed her hands with a cup of hot coffee. “You guys have no idea who you just sat down with,” she said, contently. “I graduated from Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland. I also went to Virginia Tech, where I survived a mass shooting in 2007.”

Health Care Crisis Update
The disaster that is the American health care system is hard to fix. There is no simple solution. We are digging our own grave daily. Your health care is dependent on your ability to work or the ability of a parent to work. Working out a vision is all well and good but we need to do something about what we currently have to deal with. What I’m reading is that Aetna was bought by CVS for $69 billion. Single payer has to be implemented in this incredibly rich company. Cigna and Anthem were about to merge in February 2017 along with rivals Aetna and Cigna who also wanted to merge but didn’t. The Justice Department blocked these massive, vertical mergers but they might have better luck if the merger is vertical.

It Is Time to End Free Labor at The White House
There has been one position in the United States government that has worked tirelessly to promote the needs related to early childhood development, HIV/AIDS awareness, Women’s Health & Wellness, LGBT rights, fighting obesity, supporting military families, ending homelessness among our veterans, addressing domestic and international literacy issues, securing health care for children across America, advocating women’s rights, slowly killing gender inequality, increasing adoption resources and foster care services, and ending violence against women.

The Plight of My Generation
Seventeen people lost their lives last month in a tragic, heartbreaking school shooting. There are no words I can type on my smartphone to do that justice. There is no way I can relate to it, either. I’m just being honest; I have never faced such a tragedy in my own life and I won’t offend the survivors by even attempting to relate.

The Health Care Crisis: Will It Ever Be Resolved?
At this point with the current administration the way it is, I can honestly say I feel health care is a lost cause. If people want to pay up all the time, then by all means, quit fighting the good fight. Give up. Don’t fight. Pre-existing conditions need not be put back into the “even-disabled-people-need-insurance” clause. To gut Medicare at a time when people need it, this is wrong, if only because health care is a human right. To deny that right, well, it means that the planet is enjoying a rise in fascism from many other countries, not just the United States.

United Nations — Is It Doing Its Job?
United Nations, is it doing its job? The United Nations was set up with high ideals about ensuring peace throughout the world. Most younger people now only hear of the UN because of “celebrity” envoys for this or that campaign. So now is the time to question the structure, aims and capability of this colossal bureaucracy. What it costs, as for who pays? It is always the taxpayers in contributing nations. What does it do and how successful is it? Why are there charities seeking funds to do things, such as relieve child poverty, that the UN also claims to be doing? Is it time to modernise and restructure the UN administration?
