Why Would Anybody Choose to Be Gay?
I was thinking about my LGBTQ brothers and sisters this morning. The things they endure and have to go through as part of the LGBTQ community. The nasty things that are said behind their backs. You hear it from conservative Christians and mean-spirited bigots far too often:

Transcendence
It had been years since Alex had changed their password. They had been too scared, too scared of what might happen if someone found out their secret. But as they sat in front of their computer, staring at the login screen, they knew that it was time to reset their password.

Conquering Elements: A Haiku Series on Overcoming Challenges and Finding Love in the LGBT Community
In ancient Greece, love was seen as a force of nature, akin to the elements themselves. And, in this haiku series, we see that love is indeed an elemental force, burning fiercely like fire, flowing adaptably like water, taking root and thriving like earth, and soaring freely like air.

Sarah
The outside world was unknown to her, but she could see a glimpse of it through the window in his room. Pronouns were trickier now; the world was trickier now. Sarah as he was now known had never existed outside of this hospital room or Stephen’s mind. The process was now illegal for a number of reasons. "The Great Sickness" had wiped out all but ten percent of men and all but fifty percent of women. It was referred to as "The Great Sickness" because there were scarcely enough people left in the world to find out its cause. It seemed to attack the Y chromosome. One little shred of DNA had nearly caused the annihilation of the human race. Quarantine, medication, prayers; nothing worked. The young, the old, the sickness did not discriminate saved for the fact that it effected men more than women.

Why are adults so confused by gender non-conforming children?
Most of the time, society groups children by their assumed roles according to their assigned sex. People assigned male at birth wear pants, play sports, and keep their hair short to look boyish. People assigned female at birth paint their nails, shop for dresses, and enjoy colours like pink and purple. The gender hierarchy has existed longer than any of us have been alive: and assumed gender roles have existed alongside it. Gender is something that needs to be challenged; it's a spectrum, and there is so much more to it than just male or female. Challenging gender norms doesn't come without backlash, and this is why it's so important to continue doing it.
