Trans-women Deserve Pride Too
It’s International Pride Month. For many in the LGBTQ+ community, this is a month of celebration. Globally speaking, I can only hope there are many joyous events to bring our community together. Love is love, right? Everyone should have the right to love who they want to love and live the way they feel is best for them.

The Republican Religionists Feel Emboldened (for now)
In some ways, I “othered” myself by coming out as trans. At least with my children and my family of origin, dwindling as it is. I highlighted yet another way we are not “the same” in this world. That shouldn’t be a problem, but of course, it is potentially mired by words like “deceived” and “liar.”

Teen Trans
When you are so young, you never fully understand the gravity of what you are saying out loud. The words “I want to be a zebra” sound innocent enough, but even from there I remember not truly feeling like myself. The only Zebras I knew about were Marty from Madagascar and Stripes from Racing Stripes. Ironically, both of which are boys. I look back at it with everything I know now, and I realise this was how I first ever voiced my dissatisfaction with my assigned gender. And the reaction I got was enough to make me never say something like that again in my family.

we don't "choose" to be gay, just like you don't "choose" to be straight!
I just want to start this out by saying, this is (but should not be) controversial, and I’m sorry not sorry. I’ll argue about this and fight about it until the day I die. until my last dying breath.

Coming Out
In honor of Pride month, this is my coming out. Hi, my name is Sara and I am Gender Fluid and Pansexual. Basically this means I go by any pronouns (but I prefer they/them) and some days I feel like a woman and others I have no gender or feel like a guy. It is usually no gender but I feel exceptionally like a woman or guy other days. Pansexual means I like everyone, gender doesn't matter to me. I think there is a deep power in finding who you are, accepting who you are and running with it.

Your Little Girl...
Hey mum... I’ve never told you this. I know that I still could. It’s not like I don’t have your number, or like I can’t just walk 20 minutes down the road and knock on your door. It’s not like you’d be mad. It’s not like you wouldn’t still give me a hug before I turned to leave.

Gender is a Performance
It's not too much of a stretch to make the claim that people under the transgender umbrella give their gender far more thought than the average cis person. Transgender people spend years and thousands of dollars on adjusting their presentation to match their gender, but gender is something that everybody has so what's up with the backlash towards transgender people lately then? A lot of the reasons cisgender people give for not supporting transgender rights is that they don't understand how it works, they can't fathom someone putting themselves through years of medical work just to feel comfortable in their body and I honestly get it. It can be pretty overwhelming when someone you love comes out as transgender because it may feel sudden or like you suddenly have to change everything you know about that person but I want to try and give another way to look at the concept of "gender" as a whole.
