You’re Still On My Mind

Ever think the dead look down on us and think “I wonder if they still remember me?”

Years passed

And you’re still here

Only In my thoughts

I wish the memories were more clear

But I only remember vaguely

I know I was happy

I hope you were too

Even with the pain you were put through

I hope your dreams came true

Hope it wasn’t too early for you

When my time comes

We can rejoice when we meet

But for now I must stay

I will do my duty

I will carry on your name

I hope you’re proud

I hope I’m doing right

This would all be easier

if you were by my side

But I know your looking down on me from above

I wish I paid more attention

When you gave me knowledge and wisdom

I wish I could listen now

I regret my careless decisions

I wish I could still listen

As I’m accomplishing

I hope you can see

I’m going to make a name for myself

I will not waste the opportunity you gave me

Hopefully you’ll be proud of me

When you passed

From this world

I remember it clear

You’re voice I still hear

And the silence after

I struggled to pick myself up

I know you wanted us to live on

Without a hiccup

But it’s hard when I still get choked up

You’re still on my mind

You taught me how to be a kid

You taught how to be a man

I can only hope everyone can understand

I know there is less fortunate

And I was lucky enough to have you as a parent

Even if your life was cut short

By a sickness that couldn’t be cured

I’m grateful for the time you had on the world

Be a free soul

And just know

You’re never be forgotten

You’re still on my mind
