Strong Hands

of Inexpressable Comfort

By Kali Fox-JirglPublished 3 years ago 1 min read

His hands clutch the sweat of industrious labor,

distressed and sore from ambitious effort

to construct, restore, and cultivate dreams.

A perpetual cover of fresh bruises, wounds, and burns

surmounting the scars of expelled anger and intoxicated chapters

now closed.

They hold too, a paternal penance replaced with steadfast

guidance and care. Disciplined wisdom contributes foresight

and stability with every selfless act.

Even still, those hands, already holding so much,

embrace mine securely through sunsets and storms,

devoted to gentle, affectionate touches and playful interactions.

Not realized by him, those wearied, humbled hands

bring waves of contentment and beauty to my heart

burdened with kindred scars.

Replenished in me, a sensuous desire

when every touch is a silent communication of love,

like a private language only our senses together understand.

Hardened yet soft, expressing love and assurance,

every touch transfers a promise

that calms uncertainty and quiets irrational disturbance.

Comfort in the most perfect of imperfect things.

Scars an exclusive reflection of perseverance.

Imperfect and beautiful. Just like us.
