Power
a response to a poem/short story (not sure which because it was high school) called Misery

You have decided not to confront misery
You've chosen
To let a stampede of it
Break your spine
And I don't have the words
That will return your
Flattened body to form
Before now
My mind thought of ways
You might re-adjust
Your burdens
And place them under your feet
But now
As your only comfort
Is the one who dare not talk
I have no advice for your sadness
So with the misery you've accepted
I give you my pity
And if I could I'd give you my hand
My ear and my friendship
Because you have the most un-manlike power
I've ever been introduced to
You swallow the evil
Hoping against sensibility to find the good
And all the things you've sent to the pits of
Any part of your body with room
Has not tainted your soul
It's just desecrated your human form
