Ode to the Great Rose Trees
The Apple Tree - Malus Domestica (Rosaeae Family)
Praise to thee, O Great Apple tree
Once condemned by Adam and Eve.
It’s not your fault, but was their choice,
Integrity fallen, they self-destroyed.
Redeemed by Johnny Appleseed
Spreading joy thru the world for free.
Planting your seeds among the weeds.
Fat Roses he brought for all to eat.

We love apples fresh, sliced and cut,
Cobblers, breads to fill our guts.
Jams, preserves, adding All Spice,
for Tarts, Cookies, thick butter, baked pies.
Hardy amidst the droughts or floods,
Apples are fresh and taste so good.
In beers, wines or cider; you choose
or Crown Royal Apple, a fruity booze.

Peel, chop them for salads or breads,
Or William Tell can shoot off your head.
Bob, bite them with the county carns,
Candy them sweet in Harvest barns.
Seeds kept safe, cyanide embedded,
preserved positive, never negative.
Planted in soil, new trees will bloom,
Red, green, yellow, treats to consume.

Thanks be to thee, O Apple tree,
We’re grateful for your rosy marque.
Sweet juices flow, your fibers chewed,
to heal, restore, an excellent food.
Hail to thee, sweet Red Delish,
McIntosh, and the Granny Smith,
Gala, tart Crispin, Fuji, Sweet Wisp,
nor forget, the rich Honey-crisp.

Sweet gifts you bare for all to eat.
August is here, harvest has come,
O Rose tree, come now, to our home.
Plump orbs you grew, with us to share.
Baskets are full, our love declared,
Adoring you, eating an Apple a day.

Note: The scientific name for an Apple is Malus Domestica. Surprisingly, the treat is not a fruit, but a pod of nutrients. It is known to stabilize sugar in the blood and lower cholesterol. The Piggy Project
I’ve had so many names in this life I lose track of which ones were ever really mine and which ones I wore because someone needed me to. Some were handed to me before I had words to refuse them, before I knew what they meant, before I knew I could say no. Most weren’t meant to hurt. That doesn’t mean they didn’t leave marks. Marks that told me who I belong to, who I am by way of who claims me, recognizes me in the good and bad, who walks beside me.

J.S. I love the story this tells and how you were able to uphold a rhythmic rhyme scheme for the whole poem! Truly a beautifully executed Ode to Apples! It really spoke to the history and versatility of the apple! I've never been a big apple fan but I appreciate the insights you shared at the end about the benefits of apples! 😊
This was as invigorating as a decent apple...and interesting, too. I did not know that!
My favorite dessert is peach or apple cobbler. I miss the apple tree I had growing in my front yard of the first house I bought. I should plant one where I am now! Great poem very strong prose as with everything you write for the challenges I think this is a contender
