Magpie mischief

Begone thieving bird

Magpies cackling in the trees

Pleased to announce the coming

Of a new spring dawn

My tree they say

You go away and find your own roost

Boast to the ladies all you will

But not on my bough

How dare you declare your love

For any passing chick

Within my indisputable territory

Clack away as much as you like

Pretty bird of shiny black and white

Try as you might

You will not steal this corvid’s place in

The race to seed the eggs

Of future magpie generations

Not a crow’s foot will you put

Here upon this treetop

I guess no interracial birds for you (magpies and crows). Good job.

Hey, Ramond. I love all the double meanings, allusions, and rapier wit in this poem. This should go under the V + A Magical Mondays.
