Falling Into Freedom
There is no going back once you've stepped off the ledge.
Just as the world tilts forward,
Your heart leaps in your throat
And you wish you could turn back.
But you know that's just the lurching of your stomach.
And you know it's just the anxiety.
While you stood on the edge of the cliff,
Your shackles had fallen off in the face of your realizations.
You realized that the journey up the precipice was a sham.
You realized the people behind you weren't following for support-
But rather to shove you off the cliff themselves.
You were surrounded by wolves and you ran up and up.
You strove to be perfect.
You fought to be loved.
You climbed steep inclines and scaled cliff faces,
Just to prove the worth that you knew you had all along.
So as you stand there on the cliff to make your next move,
You discard the bondage and clothing of all the falsities.
It's the scariest choice you've ever made.
But step off that cliff and you will find your wings.
Because as the world tilts forward and you plummet down below,
The freedom of falling shows you the ropes.
Free-falling and gliding, you will go.
You can choose to fly, you can choose to leap.
Or you can stand there with shackles on your feet.
Make the choice, embrace the fall,
Spiral, twist, and scream.
And instead of crashing, you'll find the freedom you seek.
