Instructions for a Feeling

How do you feel when the love of our lives

Is dying of liver failure

I remember him here, and it makes me sad

To know how he was and it also makes me mad

He will only be twelve in September, he is only eleven now

Is it something we did?

He also has a huge bump on his lip, that is going into his mouth

It is affecting his abiltiy to eat, my Comfort is a fighter, just like his original owner, my son

He was my murdered son's dog, and all we have left of him now

We took him to the vet, and she said it was oral cancer

And I asked her was she sure?

She said she couldn't be sure without a biopsy, and for a biopsy she would have to put him asleep, and he wouldn't make it through the operation, because he was in liver failure

So I will put my feelings on hold, and enjoy my time with him.

He was our murdered son's dog, and he is the smartest dog ever

I wrote about Comfort before in a letter I wrote to him

I know it is silly to cry over a dog, but he is special indeed

However, if you are an animal lover, you will understand

He has held us up for nearly twelve years and we are not ready to let him go yet

We don't want him to suffer, and as of yet, he is not in any pain

And just today, he was galloping through our living room with a toy in his mouth.

I am not taking a photo of him with a growth on his mouth, for he has too much dignity for that.

I am avoiding the feeling of letting him go, I'll call it ---

bask--to linger in and enjoy the warmth of the moment, or someone's presence

Until they are no longer there

Comfort- Giving Comfort for eleven plus years

I hope he makes it to his twelve birthday, which is in September

Until then we are spoiling him rotten

We are hand feeding him his food

And we are still buying him new toys

I even rock him to sleep at night

Comfort says it doesn't get any better than that
