Summer's Day

Cicadas en masse chirp cacophonic sound

And the blue jays joyfully eat their fill

Hummingbirds sip sugared water down

And choke cherry trees blossom on the hill

From neighbors the happy sounds of children at play

On the patio we are having afternoon English tea

With child, son-in-law, and grandchild visiting today

A more perfect summer's day there could hardly be

Except two chairs are empty, for two live too far away

To be here in person, only their images will we see

We await their call, they will be zooming here today

The magic of internet communication allows this to be

And so another summer's day we visit and we are content

Knowing in a few weeks time, we will wonder where summer went
