Fear. Suffocating, dark, choking.
Fear of stepping out into the light.
Fear of being known.
Terror at being judged.
Take a deep breath,
They say.
Hold it and count to ten.
The fear doesn’t go away.
I look up towards the light,
And feel,
Hands, lifting me up.
I reach out,
Seeking success.
Searching for safety.
Security.
There is nothing beneath me.
To fall back to.
I have to climb out of this pit.
And stand upon the summit.
