I’m a proud Tokyoite and have been for my 5 years living here. The alley I live on provides cozy spots to curl up for a nap, a variety of delicious scraps, and sometimes a passerby will give me a nice scratch on my back. I purr and rub against their leg and they might even give me a bit of their tuna sandwich. Unlike my alley-mates, I’m not scared of people. I’m the only one who knows my human given name, Takeo. When I was very young I lived with some folks and they were kind to me, but they were an elderly couple. They passed away a year apart from each other. The lady of the house fed me well and let me do as I please for the last year of her life. I had been mostly an indoor cat but I think she sensed my desire for the great outdoors. I was out roaming the streets when she took her last breath. I mourned her passing, but I expected it and we cats accept death better than humans.

The Clean Plate Club. Created with: Sundays For Dogs.
We’ve all seen it—those puppy dog eyes that seem to grow cartoonishly large right around dinner time. It was truly a battle to say “no” when our fur baby, Saucy, would stare longingly at our plates, completely ignoring the overflowing bowl of kibble that sat untouched beside her. What began with a few bites of chicken from our plate here or a carrot tossed to her there, quickly escalated into a nightly begging routine in which we wound up losing half of our meals to Saucy! This constant table-side begging became an issue we both wanted to solve for ourselves and our sweet girl. We wanted Saucy to eat food she loves, but it was difficult to get her to want what’s on her plate instead of what's on ours, especially when we know that the ingredients in her generic-brand food are oftentimes toxic and a bit sketchy.

7 Essential Commands Your Dog Should Know
Commands offer a basic language for you to communicate with your dog, and when they’re paired with a solid foundation of socialization, you end up with a very good boy or girl. While dogs can learn upwards of 150 words, they really only need to know these seven.

Bringing Dewey Home
My husband was getting ready to leave for an internship in just under a month, so the two of us were talking more and more seriously about getting a dog. We had both been talking about it for months, discussing the pros and cons, what types of breeds we wanted, the size of the dog, and how we would train it. I've had dogs my whole life, but this would be my husband's first pet aside from a betta fish when he was a young child. As often happens with decisions like this, our idea of an ideal dog was nothing like what we ended up with. We thought that a smaller dog, like a schnauzer, pug, or a poodle mix of some kind would be ideal in our apartment. I have pretty bad joint problem and osteoarthritis, so we thought having a dog would help me to exercise more regularly, which would improve my mobility and flexibility. Because of how easily I can get hurt, we figured a small dog might be safer for me to walk.

I Spent $1000+ on a $7 Fish
The dollar store near our home always had an eclectic selection of amazing things I didn't know I needed. I'd stopped in for a few household items but, of course, by the time I made it to the checkout counter, my basket was overflowing with an assortment of hair products, glassware, unusual candies, and decorations for a future birthday celebration.

More Than A Feline
Introduction - Why I Am Writing This Yeah the title is a deliberate take on the Boston song which kicks off one of the best sides of a vinyl album that you will ever hear, but this is not about Boston it is about cats, the ones that I meet on my daily walks.
