My Best Investment
When you've been together as long as my husband and I have been, people often ask the question, "When will you have kids?" Truth is, we haven't been ready. We're enjoying being married. We're working on getting ourselves set before we bring a child into this world. We work on opposite ends of the spectrum, truthfully. I am a teacher. He's a correctional officer. I work with kids and try to help set them on the right path. He gets the ones who followed their own. So, our first step towards answering the above question was... let's get a dog.

Furry Friends
One Sunday morning, I was awoken by the buzzing of what seemed to be my phone. I answered, only to hear my sister excitedly beg me to wake up. She had asked I get ready and go with her to pick up a furry little gift whom she’d be surprising her husband and daughter with. Without hesitation, I agreed! Who wouldn't want to go see newborn pups?! Twenty minutes later she arrived at my house and I hopped in the car, and there we were driving thirty minutes out of the city to meet our newest family member. As we pulled into the lovely, quiet community her friend lived in, I kept reminding myself that I was here to help her bring ONE puppy home. Little did I know I was going to walk into a living room full of cute, furry little adventurers that were ready to steal my heart!

The “Dollar” That Is Made of Gold
When I was small, I always had this crazy obsession with the dream of having a dog! But, the problem wasn’t just my parents. I lived in apartments where they didn’t allow any pets. I was an only child, so imagine how lonely I felt. Over the years, I kept and kept asking my mom for a dog but, not to be ungrateful or anything, she got me a cat instead, his name was Thomas. Yeah I know I said that the apartments I lived in didn’t let us have any pets, but we kind of broke the rule. We hid him for years and years. Then, one day, the landlord saw it and literally kicked us out so we had to look for another place. We then found other apartments that animals weren’t allowed either, but this nice woman had a cat also. She then proceeded to tell us, “Don’t worry, you don’t have to hide it, no one's going to tell on you.” As I must remind you that I am an only child not used to any kids, but now I had to get used to playing with my little neighbors.

Discovering My Dog’s Personality
Growing up, I always thought that dogs acted all the same; dogs were categorized as playful, loyal, and loving. Most dogs are but I was unaware that some had attitude (asides from Chihuahuas) or will find a way to be heard. I grew up in a Mexican household where dogs were not allowed inside the house. The family dogs we had were kept outside and I was unable to get to know them. Keeping your dog outside prevents an owner to grow a deep connection with their dog. Of course, this doesn’t mean that the owner does not love their pet but it’s very hard to create a deep connection since you ’re unable to see their reaction to things, their way of communicating, or their thought process.

While you try frantically to stop it, you're thinking "do I have a gay dog?" Homosexuality occurs naturally in humans, so do dogs have a sexual preference? I am not talking about the aesthetics here, although that counts as well since long nails on dogs aren't a pretty sight. Health issues, particularly pain and problems with posture, are the main reason why you must cut your dog’s nails. It's part of caring or your dog at home.
